Casablanca Mohammed V Airport (CMN) makes sense when Casablanca belongs in your itinerary, or when its flight options justify the onward journey. If Marrakech is your first stop, include the connection, ground transport and any extra overnight stay before deciding that the Casablanca flight is better value.
Visiting both cities? Compare arriving in one and departing from the other. Your first hotel and final stop can matter more than the headline airfare.
| Airport | Best fit | Onward travel | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marrakech Menara (RAK) | Marrakech stays and itineraries beginning there | Road transfer into Marrakech; onward transport for destinations beyond the city | The flight available from your departure airport may cost more or involve a connection |
| Casablanca Mohammed V (CMN) | Trips beginning in Casablanca, or a favorable flight connection into Morocco | Airport rail into Casablanca, road transfers, or an onward flight where available | Continuing to Marrakech adds another journey before reaching your accommodation |

Marrakech Menara is the more straightforward arrival point for a short Marrakech break. If your first nights are already booked in the city, landing at RAK keeps the arrival journey local instead of adding an intercity transfer.
That advantage also matters when a tour or excursion starts from Marrakech. Work backward from the meeting point and departure day: arriving in the right city can be worth paying more for, particularly when the alternative uses part of a limited holiday getting there.
Marrakech’s airport-to-city options include taxis, arranged transfers and an airport bus. The practical choice depends on your accommodation, luggage and arrival time. Use the city’s airport transport information to understand the available modes, then establish the pickup arrangements for your booking.
If your riad requires a walk from the vehicle drop-off point, arrange the final meeting point with the property. Comparing “airport to city center” alone misses that last part of the journey.
Planning to buy mobile data after landing? Our guide to buying a SIM at Marrakech Airport covers that separate arrival decision.

Casablanca Mohammed V works particularly well when you intend to spend time in Casablanca before continuing elsewhere. The airport has a rail connection into the city, which gives you an alternative to completing the whole arrival journey by road.
If your first hotel is in Marrakech, compare three ways of continuing:
Train: Travel from the airport railway station and connect to an intercity service toward Marrakech. Search the complete journey from the airport, including the change and the final trip from Marrakech station to your accommodation.
Arranged road transfer: Price the journey from the airport to your actual hotel or riad drop-off point. This can reduce luggage handling and changes of transport, but the quote needs to cover your whole party and the vehicle you need.
Onward flight: Compare a ticket through to Marrakech with ending your flight at CMN and continuing overland. Include the connection time and baggage arrangements, particularly if you are considering separately booked tickets.
The airport train and the Marrakech intercity train are separate parts of the journey. Buying a ticket that starts at a Casablanca city station leaves you responsible for reaching that station first.
Use the ONCF journey planner for the travel date and connection shown on your ticket. Rail works can affect the route and timetable, so an old screenshot of airport train departures is a poor basis for a tight arrival plan. Our guide to apps for trains and maps in Morocco helps with the tools needed along the way.
The useful comparison is your arrival time at the accommodation. Landing earlier at CMN may still work better than taking a much later flight into RAK, provided the onward journey fits.
Neither airport is consistently the cheaper choice for every departure city and travel date. Compare the flights available to you with the same baggage allowance and booking conditions, then add the transport each itinerary requires.
Build the comparison around these costs:
Flights for the whole party: Include checked luggage, any seats you intend to pay for, and the return journey.
Transport to the first accommodation: Count every leg, including airport-to-station travel and the final taxi or transfer.
Additional accommodation: Include a night in Casablanca if the arrival schedule makes continuing to Marrakech impractical for your plans.
The journey back to the departure airport: Savings on arrival can disappear if you must retrace the route before flying home.
Car-related costs, if relevant: Include the rental period, fuel, tolls, parking and any quoted charge for returning the car elsewhere.
Compare private transport per vehicle with train or bus tickets for every passenger. This keeps a family’s transfer quote on the same basis as the public transport alternative.
Keep time visible alongside the monetary total. Saving on airfare may be worthwhile during a flexible trip, while the same saving may be less attractive when it consumes much of the first day of a short break.
Decide whether Casablanca is an intended stop or simply a consequence of the flight. Time you want to spend there belongs in the holiday budget; an overnight stop needed only to make the arrival work belongs in the airport comparison. That distinction is useful when you budget for your Morocco trip.
Late flights need a complete arrival plan. The scheduled landing time comes before immigration, baggage collection and reaching your next departure point.
If you land at CMN late and your first hotel is in Marrakech, compare an arranged road transfer with staying overnight and continuing the next day. Include the accommodation’s check-in arrangements and the first activity you would miss or delay. Do this before paying for a flight whose saving depends on an onward connection you may struggle to catch.
Landing late at RAK keeps a Marrakech stay closer to its destination, but you still need transport and access to the property. Send your flight details to your accommodation and agree on a meeting point if assistance is needed for the final approach.
With a booked driver, keep the pickup instructions, contact details and agreed total accessible. Make sure you understand what happens if the flight arrives late. The guide to taxi and tourist scams in Morocco covers payment and pickup situations in more detail.
Trips that include Casablanca and Marrakech deserve a multi-city flight search. Arriving at CMN and leaving from RAK can fit a trip beginning in Casablanca and ending in Marrakech; the reverse can suit the opposite route.
This arrangement removes a return journey made solely to reach the original arrival airport. Its value depends on the difference in airfare and what that return journey would otherwise cost in transport, time and possibly accommodation.
Compare the full itinerary in both directions:
CMN arrival, RAK departure: Start with your planned Casablanca stay, then continue to Marrakech.
RAK arrival, CMN departure: Begin in Marrakech and place your Casablanca stay toward the end.
The second arrangement is easier to assess when Casablanca is a genuine final stop. If you intend to remain in Marrakech until departure day, you still have an intercity journey to complete before the flight.
Renting a car adds another comparison. Request a quote using the exact pickup and return locations, including opening hours and any one-way charge. You can also price a rental for only the part of the trip that needs it, instead of keeping a car throughout city stays.
Before paying, put the airport code, first hotel, arrival transport and departure airport together in one itinerary. These details should describe a journey you can comfortably complete with the luggage and people traveling.
These preparations make that itinerary easier to use:
Check entry eligibility before committing to flights. Review Morocco’s entry requirements for your passport and circumstances.
Plan the first payment. Establish how you will pay for the transfer and prepare for cash and card payments in Morocco.
Review what you are carrying. Use Morocco’s customs rules when packing equipment, valuables or other items that may need attention.
Save the arrival details offline. Keep your accommodation address, map pin, booking reference and pickup instructions available without a connection.
Arrange mobile data around your arrival plan. If you want an eSIM before traveling, compare Morocco eSIM plans while you still have time to choose and install one.
On an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone, a Morocco eSIM provides mobile data for maps, booking access and messaging your accommodation. Keep the offline copies as well, especially when your arrival involves changing transport.
