Where to look for SIM counters at Marrakech Airport

• General-use data: how many gigabytes work across your apps, rather than on selected social platforms.

• Top-up process: how to add data and whether a new recharge changes the expiry date.

If the SIM itself is offered free, establish what you must buy to make it useful. An advertised national promotion applies to your purchase if the counter confirms it is available there.

Passport, payment and activation

Bring your passport to register a local prepaid line. Orange explicitly accepts a passport among its identification documents, alongside Moroccan identity and residence documents.

Your phone also needs to be carrier-unlocked. If you are buying a physical SIM, check that the device has a compatible SIM slot; an eSIM-only phone needs a digital option. Ask about local eSIM availability at the counter before paying.

Confirm card acceptance before registration begins, and keep some Moroccan dirhams available as a backup. If a seller quotes a price in euros, ask for the dirham total as well so you can compare offers consistently.

Before you leave the counter:

1. Confirm the line has been registered in your name.

2. Ask the assistant to show the active data allowance and expiry.

3. Switch off Wi-Fi and load a webpage using the new mobile connection.

4. Save the receipt and any account or top-up instructions.

5. Put your original SIM somewhere secure if you removed it.

Testing with Wi-Fi switched off matters: a phone can appear connected while still using the terminal’s wireless network. Ask for help while the seller can see the problem.

Is it worth waiting for a shop in Marrakech?

Waiting makes sense if you can reach your accommodation without mobile data and want more time to discuss smaller recharges, a longer stay or calling needs. We would make a separate shop visit for a more suitable package or a better confirmed price.
