You can buy tourist SIM cards at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, with sales points in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Buying on arrival suits visitors who want a local number and an unlimited-data package; Roafly suits those who want to arrange their mobile data before reaching the terminal.
Chunghwa Telecom sells tourist day passes through its airport counters, and Taiwan Mobile offers tourist SIMs and eSIMs at its airport sales points. These are prepaid visitor packages, so compare the included days, calling credit and hotspot allowance together.
| Operator | Tourist package | Phone data | Included calling credit | Package price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chunghwa Telecom | 3-day 4G | Unlimited | NT$100 | NT$300 |
| Chunghwa Telecom | 5-day 4G | Unlimited | NT$50 | NT$300 |
| Chunghwa Telecom | 7-day 4G | Unlimited | NT$150 | NT$500 |
| Chunghwa Telecom | 10-day 4G | Unlimited | NT$100 | NT$500 |
| Chunghwa Telecom | 30-day 4G | Unlimited | NT$430 | NT$1,000 |
| Taiwan Mobile | 7-day 5G | Unlimited; 7 GB hotspot allowance | NT$150 | NT$800 |
Selected direct-operator packages checked on 23 October 2026 against Chunghwa Telecom and Taiwan Mobile tourist offers. Prices are in New Taiwan dollars and cover the package shown; no separate standard activation charge is listed for these offers. Reseller bundles and optional extras can have different totals.
The useful comparison is between the same travel dates and features. Chunghwa’s three- and five-day 4G cards cost the same, but the shorter card includes more calling credit. Its seven- and ten-day cards follow the same pattern: longer validity trades some calling credit for extra days.
Before paying, ask for the total covering the SIM or eSIM, data package and any service charge. Keep optional transport cards, accessories and other bundled products separate from the connectivity price.
Public arrivals halls are the simplest starting point after immigration, baggage collection and customs. Some telecom sales points are inside restricted arrival areas, so a counter shown on an airport map may no longer be accessible once you have entered the public terminal.
Chunghwa has first-floor arrivals locations in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Its airport directory also identifies a Terminal 1 restricted-area point and additional departure-side locations. Use the arrivals location for your terminal rather than heading to a departure counter unnecessarily.
Current counter-by-counter hours are not reliably published in the main location guide. Older opening times copied between travel sites should not be treated as a promise that a particular desk will still be serving when you arrive. The official airport counter locations include maps and a link to the current service-centre directory.
Taiwan Mobile’s maps distinguish the Terminal 1 first-floor public arrivals hall, the Terminal 1 arrival passport-check hall, and the Terminal 2 first-floor public arrivals hall.
The airport counter map and hours list one T1 public-arrivals sales point at 08:00–20:30 and one T2 public-arrivals point at 09:00–20:30. Other marked points have different schedules, including a T2 point listed at 04:30–23:00. Match the opening time to the actual map pin or collection point on your booking.
Far EasTone also sells tourist physical SIMs and eSIMs through its Taoyuan Airport service centres. Its current airport package total and complete counter hours were not reliably verified for this comparison, so obtain those details from the specific desk before choosing it over a priced option above.
If you reserve through a travel platform, follow the seller name and collection point on the voucher. The network printed on a SIM package does not necessarily identify the company operating the pickup desk.
Bring your original passport and a second identity document. Accepted combinations differ by operator and visitor status; a photo of a passport on your phone is not a substitute for the original.
Chunghwa’s local eSIM guidance requests two ID documents and lists several possible secondary documents, including a driving licence or student ID. Taiwan Mobile publishes its own accepted combinations, with different primary-document rules for visitors from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. Confirm your particular combination if you do not have a straightforward second document.
Payment also varies. Carry New Taiwan dollar cash for Chunghwa’s tourist prepaid offers, whose terms specify cash payment. Taiwan Mobile lists cash and card payment options, although a third-party pickup desk may apply its own checkout process.
Before leaving the counter:
Make sure the phone is carrier-unlocked and supports the chosen SIM format.
Ask staff to complete registration and help with installation if needed.
Turn off Wi-Fi and load a webpage to test mobile data.
Note the expiry time and keep the local number and receipt.
Taiwan Mobile calculates tourist-card validity in 24-hour periods from activation. Its calling-credit top-ups do not extend the tourist card’s validity or renew the unlimited-data period.
Keep your documents accessible through the arrival process, and review Taiwan’s airport customs rules before packing food, tobacco or other restricted items.
Unlimited phone data can come with a separate hotspot limit. Taiwan Mobile’s seven-day 5G card, for example, includes 7 GB of sharing; once that allowance is exhausted, hotspot sharing stops while the phone’s own unlimited data continues during the card’s validity.
Chunghwa’s 5G tourist passes also specify separate tethering allowances. If you plan to work on a laptop or share one connection with a partner, compare the exact hotspot terms before paying extra for 5G.
Chunghwa, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone offer local eSIM options, so an eSIM-only phone can still use a Taiwanese tourist plan. The digital format removes the physical card swap, but local purchase and identity-verification requirements still apply.
The practical choice is therefore between a locally registered tourist plan with calling features and a travel data plan you can arrange beforehand. To compare the wider provider choices, see our Taiwan eSIM comparison.
Roafly’s Taiwan eSIM lets you buy and install your data plan before departure, avoiding dependence on airport counter hours or physical SIM stock. The current plans list Chunghwa and Taiwan Mobile networks with 4G access, subject to local availability and device compatibility.
Plans start at US$4.50 for 1 GB over seven days. Examples with 30-day validity include 3 GB for US$6.90, 5 GB for US$9.90 and 10 GB for US$16.90, checked on 23 October 2026. Hotspot use draws from the purchased allowance without a separate hotspot quota, and top-ups are available.
Roafly is data-only and does not provide a Taiwanese phone number or ordinary cellular calls and SMS. It fits maps, messaging, bookings and browsing; a local unlimited tourist package can offer better value for heavy data use or visitors who need local calling.
Your device must be unlocked and eSIM-compatible. Install while you have a stable internet connection, then follow the setup instructions when you arrive.

Buying in the city is a useful fallback if your preferred airport counter is closed or you want to discuss a longer-stay option. Chunghwa offers prepaid services through service centres around Taiwan, and Taiwan Mobile also provides a physical-store route for its tourist cards.
There is no automatic saving from leaving the airport first. Compare the exact city product, validity and registration requirements against the airport package; a different prepaid plan may have different allowances and renewal rules.
Our guide to buying a tourist SIM in Taiwan covers the broader local purchase decision. It is the better next step if you are staying beyond a short holiday or need to keep a local number active.
Free airport Wi-Fi can help you open your hotel address, contact someone meeting you or complete an eSIM download. Follow the airport’s Wi-Fi connection instructions and the network details displayed in the terminal.
Plan around the time you will reach the public arrivals hall. Immigration and baggage collection can take you past a counter’s closing time even if the aircraft lands earlier.
Arriving during the day: compare the local packages if you want a Taiwanese number or unlimited phone data.
Arriving close to closing time: have a connection ready beforehand instead of relying on the last available desk.
Continuing directly beyond Taipei: arrange data before leaving the airport so your first stop does not depend on finding a phone shop.
Save your accommodation address and essential booking details offline as well. Our guide to internet options in Taiwan explains how mobile data, pocket Wi-Fi and public hotspots fit together during the rest of the trip.
Can I buy a SIM at Taipei Airport?
Yes, at Taoyuan Airport (TPE), with telecom sales points in both T1 and T2. Taipei Songshan Airport uses the code TSA and has different facilities, so check the airport code on your ticket.
Can I get a Taiwanese number with an eSIM?
Local operator tourist eSIMs can include a Taiwanese number and calling credit. Roafly’s Taiwan eSIM supplies mobile data without a local number, so choose according to whether ordinary local calls are part of your trip.
Are Taoyuan Airport SIM counters open all night?
Do not assume 24-hour service. Opening times vary by terminal, operator and pickup point; prepare a travel eSIM or an offline arrival plan if your flight reaches TPE late at night.
