Yes, you can buy or collect a physical SIM card at Tan Son Nhat Airport’s international arrivals terminal. Buying at the airport suits visitors with an unlocked phone and a physical SIM slot who want setup assistance, particularly if their chosen package includes a Vietnamese number and local calls.
The useful distinction is between buying at a counter and collecting a package reserved online. They may involve different prices, pickup instructions and opening hours, even when the same network name appears on the SIM.
International arrivals use Terminal 2 (T2). The locations below refer to that international arrival route; they should not be used as directions for the domestic terminals.
| Seller or collection option | Where to find it | Hours | Airport price status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Consortio / Way2go | International arrivals: a counter before immigration and further counters after customs around exits A1 and A2 | Hours not reliably published | Current airport price not reliably published |
| VinaPhone-branded collection point for An Nam Telecom bookings through Traveloka | International arrivals, Counter 1; follow the booth image and directions supplied with the booking | Advertised collection hours: 07:00–19:00 | Online package prices are booking-specific; the walk-in total is not reliably published |
Counter directions and advertised collection hours checked on 19 October 2026 against Way2go’s pickup guide and the An Nam Telecom listing on Traveloka. Online reservation prices are not verified walk-in quotes.
Consortio’s international-arrivals locations give you more than one opportunity to find a SIM counter:
Before immigration: the I Counter is described as approximately 10 metres before the immigration desks, opposite the international time-zone clocks.
After baggage collection and customs: the G1 and G2 counters are in the first row of counters on your left as you emerge through exit A1 or A2. Additional Consortio counters are identified elsewhere in the arrivals hall.
Use the pickup directions and counter photographs to identify the desk, especially when collecting an existing order. Tell the staff whether you need a physical SIM, a Vietnamese number or data only; those are separate product requirements.
If you pass the counter before immigration, continue through the normal arrival process. The published locations also include desks after customs, so you do not need to turn back into a controlled area.
Physical SIM orders from An Nam Telecom’s Traveloka listing are collected at a VinaPhone-branded booth in international arrivals, identified as Counter 1. Its advertised collection window is 07:00–19:00.
The listing includes a 15-day option with 4 GB of high-speed data per day and domestic calls, alongside data-only options. Keep the package description and booth photograph with your voucher; a VinaPhone sign alone does not identify the exact offer you reserved.
Staff assistance with inserting the SIM is included in the collection instructions. Allow time after landing for immigration and baggage before deciding whether your flight fits the pickup window. An arrival shortly before 19:00 does not ensure you will reach the desk before collection closes.
Current airport price not reliably published is the honest position for the walk-in offers checked for this guide. Online pickup listings provide package prices, but they do not establish a single price charged by every airport counter.
Ask for the complete amount in Vietnamese dong before registration begins. It should identify the physical SIM or starter kit, the data package and any separate activation or service charge. If a fee is already included, it should not be added again at payment.
The package details matter just as much as the total:
Daily allowance or trip allowance: 4 GB per day is different from a single 4 GB balance for the whole stay.
High-speed limit: an “unlimited” label needs an explanation of any speed reduction, daily threshold and hotspot restriction.
Validity: establish when the package starts and its expiry date.
Calls and number: confirm whether domestic calls are included and whether the line provides the Vietnamese number you need.
Support: retain the receipt, package name and seller’s contact details.
Arrange the payment method before staff start the registration. Keeping some Vietnamese dong available gives you a backup if your preferred card is not accepted.
Bring your original passport and keep your visa or entry details accessible. Vietnam’s subscriber-verification rules cover foreign passport holders, and registration can involve a portrait or further identity checks. Buying a local SIM is more than handing over cash and inserting the card.
Have the SIM registered to you and complete setup on the handset you intend to use. Since 15 June 2026, Vietnam’s rules require renewed facial verification when a mobile subscriber changes devices; moving a local SIM into another phone can lead to outgoing calls and SMS being suspended pending verification.
Before leaving the counter:
Turn off Wi-Fi and open a webpage using the new mobile connection.
Check the active package and expiry information with the staff.
Test a domestic call if calling is part of the package you bought.
Put your home SIM and its tray safely away if either was removed.
Your handset must be carrier-unlocked. If it has no physical SIM slot, establish that the seller can provide a compatible eSIM before paying for a physical-SIM collection product.
Keep arrival paperwork separate from the phone setup. Reviewing Vietnam’s airport customs rules before flying helps you deal with baggage and declarations before concentrating on your connection.
Buying in Ho Chi Minh City makes sense if your transfer is arranged and you want to discuss a longer stay, regular local calls or ongoing account support with an operator store. VNPT VinaPhone stores provide a city alternative to airport pickup; the useful comparison is the plan available to you plus any starter cost.
Do not assume the city option is automatically cheaper. Compare the full airport quote with a city offer that has similar data, validity and calling benefits, then consider the extra journey and time involved. Our guide to buying a local SIM in Vietnam covers the wider prepaid choice and registration process.
If you are still deciding between a local SIM, home roaming and Wi-Fi, the broader guide to internet options in Vietnam explains where each approach fits.
Roafly’s Vietnam eSIM lets you prepare data before departure, without relying on airport stock or shop hours. You need an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone.
Standard options checked on 19 October 2026 include 5 GB for 30 days at US$9.90 and 10 GB for 30 days at US$16.00. These are total data allowances for the package, rather than daily allowances.
Plans list Viettel Mobile, MobiFone and Vinaphone, with 4G/5G access depending on your device, location and network conditions. Hotspot uses your allowance, and top-ups are supported.
Roafly is data-only, without a Vietnamese number, conventional calls or SMS. Pick a local voice package if you need those features. Our Vietnam eSIM comparison explores other package structures.

Install before travel. In Vietnam, select Roafly for mobile data and enable roaming on that line as instructed. Keep home-line data roaming disabled unless you intend to use it.
Tan Son Nhat provides free Wi-Fi in public areas of the international terminal. SASCO’s airport Wi-Fi information identifies the network as FreeWifi TanSonNhat AirPort and describes access as available around the clock without a time limit.
Use it to retrieve a voucher, contact your accommodation or save your pickup details. Follow any sign-in page that appears, and ask airport staff if you are unsure which network to select.
Before heading outside, save your hotel address and the information needed to find your driver. Airport Wi-Fi will not provide a continuing connection during the drive, so either get mobile data working first or arrange the transfer while you are still connected. Our guide to common tourist scams in Vietnam also covers problems to watch for when arranging travel services.
Landing during the day with a physical-SIM phone: an airport counter is practical if you want help with registration and installation. Compare the full package before paying, then test it with Wi-Fi switched off.
Landing late at night: do not build your plan around the 07:00–19:00 collection service. Prepare an eSIM if your phone supports it, or arrange your transfer and buy a local SIM in the city after arrival.
Staying longer or needing local calls: prioritize a properly registered local package with the number, calling allowance and renewal terms you need. The largest advertised data allowance may not answer those requirements.
Connecting to a domestic flight: keep the terminal transfer in mind before joining a SIM queue. Preparing data before departure removes one task between immigration, baggage collection and your onward flight.
