Buying a physical SIM at San Pedro Sula Airport is not a dependable arrival plan: a current seller, location and opening hours could not be reliably verified. If you need data for your pickup or onward journey, prepare an eSIM before flying; if you need a Honduran number, arrange a visit to an operator store in the city.
Do not build your arrival around finding a staffed Claro or Tigo counter at SAP. Online accounts disagree about terminal sales, and the available evidence does not establish a current shop where arriving visitors can reliably buy and activate a line.
That uncertainty matters most if you are leaving directly for another destination. Searching the terminal for an unconfirmed seller can delay your pickup without solving your connection needs.
| Option | Where you arrange it | Price information | Main consideration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physical SIM at SAP | Terminal seller, if available | Current airport price not reliably published | Seller location, stock and hours are unverified |
| Claro local SIM | Official store in San Pedro Sula | Request the SIM, package and activation total | Useful if you need a local number and can visit a store |
| Tigo local SIM | Tigo store or authorized seller | Physical SIM: L50, before your chosen package | Foreign-passport activation requires agency assistance |
| Roafly eSIM | Online before departure | From $4.90 for 1 GB, valid for 7 days | Requires an unlocked, eSIM-compatible device; data only |
Details checked on 22 October 2026. Tigo’s SIM price is a national reference, not an airport quote. No reliable current SAP total covering the SIM, data package and any seller fees was established.
If a seller is operating when you arrive, ask for the complete price and whether staff can register a foreign passport before paying. Buying the plastic SIM and getting a usable connection are separate steps.
Official city stores give you a practical place to ask about registration, package allowances and activation. Build the stop around your accommodation or existing route rather than making an unnecessary detour from the airport.
Claro has several verified locations in San Pedro Sula:
City Mall SPS: Second level, local 220, beside Pronavit. Listed hours are Monday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–8 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
Mega Mall: Boulevard del Este. Listed hours are Monday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–7 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m.
Both are city locations, not airport counters. Use the Claro store directory to check the branch before travelling there; published opening hours do not establish SIM stock.
Tigo also sells physical SIMs through its stores and authorized outlets. Its L50 SIM charge is only one part of the purchase: you still need the package that matches your stay. An agency is the more practical starting point for foreign visitors because it can handle the activation issue explained below.
Local prepaid service can make sense when you want a Honduran number, local calling or a larger allowance. Compare the package validity as well as the data amount—a short-validity bundle may need renewing during your trip. Our guide to buying a local SIM in Honduras covers the wider Claro-versus-Tigo decision.
Bring your original passport and an unlocked phone when visiting an operator store. Before buying a physical SIM, also make sure your particular phone model has a SIM tray.
Tigo’s online activation portal does not currently accept passports or residence documents. Foreign visitors who have bought a Tigo Chip are directed to an agency, where an employee can activate the prepaid line without an activation charge. That free activation does not include the SIM or data package; the distinction is explained in Tigo’s foreign-customer activation guidance.
Keep the purchase straightforward:
Request the full total in lempiras. Separate the SIM, package and any retailer service fee.
Agree on the package. Ask how much data works across all apps, how long it lasts and whether local calls are included.
Establish the payment method before activation. Card acceptance and foreign-card processing should be confirmed with the particular seller.
Test mobile data before leaving. Turn off Wi-Fi, open a webpage and make sure the purchased package is active.
Ask staff to show you how to check the remaining allowance and recharge. Keep the receipt and SIM packaging until the line is working properly.
Roafly removes the need to find a physical SIM seller after landing. You can buy a Honduras eSIM before departure and install it while you have a stable internet connection.
The Honduras plan uses Claro, with 4G where available. It is data-only, supports hotspot within your purchased allowance and offers top-ups. You can continue using WhatsApp with your existing number, but the plan does not provide a Honduran phone number or conventional calls and SMS.
That makes Roafly especially useful for a short visit, an arrival followed by an immediate transfer, or anyone who wants to avoid fitting a store visit into the first day. Your device must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.

Before departure, complete installation and save the setup instructions offline. On arrival, select the Roafly line for mobile data and follow its data-roaming instructions. Keep data roaming disabled on your home line unless you intend to use your home operator’s roaming service.

Wi-Fi is reported at San Pedro Sula Airport, but current official details for the network name, login process and free-use limits were not reliably established. Treat it as a backup for contacting your driver or opening a booking, rather than your only connection plan.
Ask airport staff which network to use. Save your accommodation address, pickup instructions and an offline map before departure so that you can continue even if the connection is unavailable.
Wi-Fi also stops helping once you leave its range. If you plan to rely on hotel Wi-Fi for most of your stay, our guide to internet options across Honduras explains where a local SIM, eSIM or another connection method fits.
Arriving during the day and staying in San Pedro Sula: A city-store visit is practical if you need a local number. Fit it around your hotel check-in and the branch’s opening hours.
Arriving late or continuing directly elsewhere: Prepare your mobile connection before departure. Keep your pickup details offline and arrange the meeting point in advance; our Honduras arrival and transport safety guide provides broader planning context.
Travelling with a phone that cannot use eSIM: Arrange your transfer first, save the essential information offline and plan a staffed operator-store visit. If your home provider offers a suitable roaming pass, it may bridge the gap until you buy a local SIM.
Before flying, also review the Honduras customs allowances for anything you are carrying beyond ordinary personal belongings.
Is there a confirmed Claro or Tigo shop inside SAP?
A current terminal shop, precise location and operating hours could not be reliably verified. Ask airport staff on arrival, but have another way to get connected.
Are SIM cards cheaper at the airport than in the city?
There is no reliable current airport total to support that comparison. Compare complete costs, including the SIM, data package and any service fee, rather than a headline recharge price.
Can I buy a Tigo SIM and activate it later at my hotel?
Foreign-passport users should plan for agency assistance. Tigo’s self-activation portal does not currently register passports or residence documents.
Which option is more practical for a short trip?
Roafly is more convenient if your priority is mobile data without a store visit. A local SIM is worth considering when you need a Honduran number, local calling or a package that better suits a longer stay.
