Yes, you can buy a physical SIM at Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport, with Vodafone serving both the baggage area and the public arrivals hall. Buying there makes sense if you want a physical card or help choosing a plan with calls; preparing an eSIM before departure is simpler for a data-only trip.
| Option | Location or setup | Published hours | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vodafone baggage-area counter | Terminal 1, restricted baggage area | 06:00–21:00 | Buying while still collecting your luggage |
| Vodafone arrivals shop | Terminal 1, public arrivals hall, landside | 07:00–23:00 | Buying after leaving the baggage area |
| Roafly Portugal eSIM | Install online on a compatible, unlocked phone | No airport shop visit | Preparing mobile data before the flight |
Locations and local opening hours checked on 4 November 2026 against the airport’s Vodafone listing. Current airport price not reliably published.
Look for this counter before leaving baggage reclaim. Treat it as an opportunity along your arrival route: once you have entered the public hall, use the landside shop instead of planning to return.
The landside shop stays open later and is the practical fallback after collecting your luggage. Allow time for border formalities, baggage and the purchase itself; your flight’s scheduled landing time is not the time you will reach the counter.
Terminal 2 is dedicated to departures. Even if your airline uses it for the return flight, focus your arrival SIM search on Terminal 1.
Start with the service you need. Tell the salesperson whether you want mobile data only or a Portuguese number with calls and texts. Then ask for the exact package name and a complete price in euros, including the SIM, first package and any setup or service charge.
Keep these details together when comparing the offer:
Data and territory: how much data is included in Portugal, and the separate roaming allowance if you are continuing to Spain or elsewhere.
Validity: when the package starts and when it expires.
Calls and renewal: which destinations are included, what happens after the allowance runs out, and whether another top-up is needed.
Online eSIM promotions and national prepaid tariffs can be useful references, but the airport quote must cover the product you are actually buying.
Have your passport or national ID available, and ask which identification details the shop needs for your chosen service. Check accepted payment methods before opening the pack, keep the receipt and SIM holder, and ask staff to help test mobile data with Wi-Fi switched off before you leave.
Your phone must be unlocked to accept another operator’s SIM. If it has no physical SIM slot, ask about an eSIM before joining the purchase queue.
Before departure, review Portugal’s customs rules, especially if you are carrying goods to declare.
Waiting makes sense if you can reach your accommodation using an existing connection or saved directions, particularly when you want a large allowance for a longer stay.
Vodafone’s national Ready range provides a useful price benchmark: 55 GB for €10 per four weeks, or 95 GB for €15 per four weeks, with 1,000 domestic minutes/SMS. The SIM-card offer includes the first four weeks of the tariff. These are Vodafone’s published national offers checked on 4 November 2026; ask a city shop for the available starter pack and its purchase total.
Compare that quote with the airport offer by allowance, validity and calls. Buying in town is worthwhile when the savings or package fit justify another shop visit. If you only need a few days of maps and messaging, spending part of your first afternoon shopping for a SIM can outweigh a small saving.
Our Portugal SIM card guide covers Vodafone, MEO and NOS in more detail, including the choices beyond the airport.
Roafly’s Portugal eSIM lets you prepare mobile data before departure and keep your usual physical SIM in place. It supports Vodafone and NOS, with 4G/5G access where available, hotspot use within your purchased allowance and top-ups.
The plan is data-only, so it suits maps, bookings, messaging and internet calls. If you need a Portuguese phone number or ordinary cellular calls and SMS, compare a local voice-and-data SIM instead.
Install the eSIM over a reliable connection before your flight, then select it for mobile data in Portugal and follow its roaming instructions. Validity starts when it first connects to a supported network in Portugal. Keep data roaming disabled on your home line if you are avoiding that operator’s roaming charges.

Match the allowance to your trip length and likely use. Video streaming, uploading large files and sharing data with a laptop require more than checking directions and restaurant bookings. Our best eSIM for Portugal comparison helps you weigh plan sizes and networks before buying.
After the public arrivals shop closes, plan around a connection you already have or an eSIM you can install online. Leave enough battery and time to finish setup inside the terminal.
Lisbon Airport provides free, unlimited Wi-Fi:
Open your device’s Wi-Fi settings.
Select _VINCI Airports WiFi.
Open a browser, accept the terms and select Connect.
Use the connection to retrieve your hotel address, message your host, arrange your onward journey or download an eSIM. Save essential details before walking out: airport Wi-Fi is a temporary connection for the terminal, not your connection for travelling through Lisbon.
If your existing mobile plan already includes suitable roaming in Portugal, you may be able to use it without buying another SIM. Compare that allowance and any fees with the broader internet options in Portugal.
Can I buy a SIM at Terminal 2?
Plan your arrival purchase around Terminal 1. Terminal 2 handles departures, and the arrival-facing Vodafone locations covered here are in Terminal 1.
Can I reserve a Vodafone SIM before travelling?
Vodafone offers advance reservation of its Travellers SIM for airport collection. Use the collection details in your reservation and allow time to reach the shop during its opening hours.
Does a Portuguese SIM include data for Spain?
The roaming allowance depends on the package. Ask specifically about Spain and the amount of data available there; a large Portugal allowance does not establish the allowance for your onward journey.
Should I buy at the airport or arrange an eSIM first?
Buy at the airport when you need a physical SIM or want help selecting a plan with a local number. Prepare an eSIM before departure when mobile data is enough and you want to leave the terminal without a shop stop. Waiting for a city shop is most useful when a larger local package would make a meaningful difference to your trip.
