Dublin Airport sells prepaid SIM cards through shops and vending machines, but your buying options depend on the terminal and arrival time. Here is how to find a local SIM, judge the price at checkout and get online before leaving the airport.

Vodafone and Three identify WHSmith in Terminal 1 and SIM vending machines in both terminals as purchase points. Buying on arrival suits visitors who need a physical card or Irish phone number; an eSIM prepared before departure is more convenient when mobile data is the priority.
| Purchase point | Location | SIM options | Hours | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WHSmith Arrivals | Terminal 1, public arrivals hall, landside | Vodafone and Three | Daily, 06:00–01:00 | Buying a physical SIM from a staffed shop |
| SIM vending machines | Terminals 1 and 2; ask for the nearest machine accessible from arrivals | Vodafone and Three identify these as sales points | Hours not reliably published | Buying without a shop-counter transaction |
| SIM Local-powered service | Terminal 1 additional-services area | Ask which packs are in stock | SIM-sales hours not reliably published | Asking about available SIMs in T1 |
Locations and published shop hours checked on 4 November 2026. WHSmith hours come from the airport’s terminal shop directory. Exact vending-machine positions and landside/airside access are not specified in the operator listings.
Head for the WHSmith in the public arrivals hall after completing arrival formalities. Dublin Airport has several WHSmith branches, including shops around departure gates; the arrivals branch is the relevant one when you have just landed.
Its long opening window makes it a practical stop for many daytime and evening arrivals. Treat it as a retail purchase: ask whether the pack is ready to use or needs a separate top-up, and whether staff can help with activation before you pay.
If you are bringing duty-free purchases or food, review Ireland’s customs allowances before travelling so your arrival preparation covers more than the phone connection.
Three identifies SIM Local machines in both terminals, while Vodafone also identifies vending machines in T1 and T2. If you land in Terminal 2 and want Three, start by asking about the machines in your own terminal rather than assuming you must walk to T1.
Dublin Airport also includes SIM sales powered by Sim Local among its Terminal 1 services. Ask which packs are available and what setup help comes with the purchase.
Vending is most useful when you are comfortable installing and activating the SIM yourself. Stock, payment options and the instructions on the pack matter more than the presence of a machine alone.
Current airport price not reliably published. Vodafone explicitly warns that its Dublin Airport prices may differ from standard plan prices, so an online tariff is not a reliable airport checkout total.
Compare the amount needed to get working data, including:
The physical SIM or starter pack.
Any required credit or first bundle.
Any activation or retailer service charge.
The data allowance and validity included in that total.
The distinction between credit and an activated bundle is particularly useful. A pack containing credit may still require you to select a plan before that balance becomes a data allowance.
If calls matter, establish whether the bundle includes an Irish number, domestic minutes and texts, or credit charged per use. Keep the receipt and SIM packaging until the connection is working.
Keep your passport available if the seller requests identification, and follow the registration steps for the specific SIM you buy. Do not treat account registration, identity checks and bundle activation as the same step.
Carry a payment card, but inspect the accepted payment methods at the shop or machine before committing to a pack. Cash acceptance and support for your particular card are purchase-point details.
Before leaving the terminal:
Check the phone is carrier-unlocked. Physical SIM purchases also require a compatible SIM slot; an eSIM-only handset needs an eSIM.
Complete the top-up or bundle activation. Having the SIM inserted does not necessarily mean its data allowance has started.
Select the new line for mobile data. Follow the operator’s setup instructions if an APN or other setting is needed.
Turn off Wi-Fi and load a page. This tests the mobile connection rather than the airport network.
Ask for help while you are still at the seller if setup fails. Keep any unused home SIM somewhere secure rather than loose in a wallet or suitcase pocket.
Waiting can make sense if your existing plan covers the journey into Dublin and you want to discuss local prepaid options at an operator shop. Vodafone’s Experience Store at 22/23 Henry Street is one central option.
As a standard-plan benchmark checked on 4 November 2026, Vodafone’s Data Unlimited 5G offer requires a €20 top-up for 28 days and includes unlimited domestic data. That is the operator’s standard tariff, not a confirmed total for a SIM bought at Dublin Airport.
Compare any airport offer against the exact city plan you would otherwise buy. The allowance, first payment and included calls need to match before a lower headline price represents a saving.
The Ireland tourist SIM guide covers local plans and purchasing options beyond the terminal. Waiting is less attractive if you need working navigation immediately or would make a special trip across the city just to buy the card.
Roafly’s Ireland eSIM plans let you arrange mobile data before travelling, removing the need to find stock, wait for shop opening or swap a physical SIM.
The Ireland product uses Eir, with 4G/5G where available. It is data-only, supports top-ups and lets you use hotspot within your purchased allowance. It does not provide an Irish phone number or conventional calls and SMS.
Install it over a reliable internet connection before departure on an unlocked, eSIM-compatible device. Validity starts when the eSIM first connects to a supported network in Ireland. On arrival, select it for mobile data and enable data roaming on the Roafly line as instructed.

This suits a Dublin city break or a trip where maps, bookings and messaging apps are your main needs. An Irish operator SIM deserves closer consideration if a local number or a large domestic allowance is more important.
Compare allowances and provider options in the best eSIM for Ireland guide before settling on a package.
Dublin Airport provides free, unlimited Wi-Fi through eir. Select “Dublin Airport Wi-Fi” in your Wi-Fi settings and click Connect on the pop-up, following the airport’s connection instructions.
Use it to retrieve tickets, message your accommodation or finish a SIM setup. Save your accommodation address and onward-travel details before leaving the terminal.
If you reach the arrivals hall after WHSmith closes at 01:00, do not build your plan around a staffed purchase. A working home-plan roaming allowance or a preinstalled travel eSIM is the stronger choice for an immediate connection; a machine is useful if an accessible one has a suitable pack.
Collecting a rental car adds a reason to finish setup before departure. Download offline maps as a backup and review the practicalities of renting and driving in Ireland before setting off.
Can I buy a SIM in Dublin Airport Terminal 2?
Yes. Vodafone and Three identify SIM vending machines in Terminal 2. Ask an airport information point for the nearest machine accessible from your arrival route and inspect its available packs.
Do I need to buy an airport SIM if I already have roaming?
Not necessarily. Check Ireland’s inclusion, your roaming data allowance and any daily charge with your home operator. The guide to getting internet in Ireland compares the broader options if you are still deciding whether you need a separate connection.
Can I buy an eSIM after landing?
Yes, an unlocked, compatible phone can use an eSIM purchased online. Airport Wi-Fi can support the purchase and installation; preparing it before departure saves that task on arrival.
Will an Ireland SIM also work in Northern Ireland?
Northern Ireland is part of the UK, so check UK coverage and roaming allowances on the exact plan. Do not assume an Ireland-only travel eSIM or an EU allowance covers Belfast. If your route crosses the border, choose a plan that explicitly includes both territories.
