You can buy a visitor SIM at Hamad International Airport, with Ooredoo sales points along the arrivals route and a Vodafone airport branch. Buy locally if you need a Qatar number and calling minutes; prepare a travel eSIM for mobile data on a short visit, or use the airport’s free Wi-Fi if you are staying in transit.
Your first decision is whether you are entering Qatar or simply changing planes. The named Ooredoo outlets below serve the arrivals route, so do not plan a trip to an arrivals counter as part of a connection between departure gates.
| Option | Where to get it | What it provides | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ooredoo Visitor SIM | Arrivals kiosks, baggage-area Qatar Duty Free and Day2Day | Local mobile service with data and calling allowances | Visitors who want a Qatar number and an in-person purchase |
| Vodafone Qatar | Hamad airport branch; ask the information desk for directions | Local prepaid service, with the package selected when buying | Visitors comparing local offers or arriving overnight |
| Roafly Qatar eSIM | Online, before departure or over Wi-Fi | Prepaid mobile data without a local number | Short stopovers in Doha and trips where data is the priority |
| Airport Wi-Fi | Within Hamad International Airport | Free internet while connected to the terminal network | Passengers remaining at the airport |
Airport sales-point and service information checked on 4 November 2026.
Ooredoo’s airport sales points include:
Ooredoo kiosks at exits 2, 3 and 4 in the Arrivals Hall.
Qatar Duty Free in the baggage-collection area.
Day2Day in the Arrivals Hall.
The exit-numbered kiosks give you a useful landmark after collecting your luggage. Keep your passport handy and ask for a Visitor SIM with enough validity to cover your departure date.
Opening hours for these individual Ooredoo outlets are not reliably published. If you arrive late and need data immediately, installing an eSIM before the flight removes the need to find an open counter.
Vodafone lists its Hamad International Airport branch as open 24 hours daily in its store directory. The listing identifies the airport but does not specify a concourse, exit or position relative to immigration; use an information desk for directions rather than assuming the shop is accessible from your transit gate.
Ask for the current Ahlan visitor offer and whether the quoted amount includes the SIM itself. Vodafone’s standard SIM-format pricing is QAR 15 for a physical card and no charge for the eSIM format; the mobile package is a separate purchase unless included in the offer.
Ooredoo’s published Visitor SIM range gives you a clear starting point for comparing a counter offer:
| Ooredoo package | Published price | Qatar data | Validity | Included calls |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Visitor SIM Go | QAR 75 | 6 GB | 7 days | 25 local minutes |
| Visitor SIM Plus | QAR 100 | 10 GB | 14 days | 100 local + 25 international minutes |
| Visitor SIM Pro | QAR 150 | 25 GB | 30 days | 400 local + 75 international minutes |
Published Ooredoo package prices checked on 4 November 2026. International minutes cover eligible destinations. Current airport price including any separate SIM, activation or dealer charge: not reliably published.
Ask for one total covering the SIM, your chosen package and any additional charge before paying. Apply the same comparison to Vodafone: a recharge denomination or a physical-card price alone is not the full cost of getting connected.
Validity can matter more than the extra data. An eight-day visit outlasts the seven-day Go package even if you have data left. Plus costs QAR 25 more and covers up to 14 days, making it the more straightforward Ooredoo choice for that itinerary.
You may also encounter a QAR 35 Ooredoo Basic plan in tariff documents. That plan is restricted to sales channels outside Qatar; it is not the standard airport visitor offer to budget around.
Visitors can register local mobile service with a passport; a Qatar residence ID is not required for a tourist connection. Bring your original, valid passport and the phone you intend to use. Online operator registration can also involve scanning the document and completing a facial-identity check.
Before handing over payment, settle four points:
SIM format: physical card or eSIM, depending on your phone.
Complete price: package, SIM and any additional charge shown together.
Expiry: when the data and minutes end, including the activation start time.
Payment method: which cards or cash the particular counter accepts.
Carry a payment card and some Qatari riyals as alternatives. Counter-specific payment policies should be settled before registration rather than assumed from the operator’s online checkout.
Ask the seller to help activate the line, then turn off Wi-Fi and open a webpage using mobile data. If calling minutes are part of your reason for buying, check that the number and allowance appear correctly in the operator’s app or activation message. Keep the receipt and SIM packaging until the connection is working.
Waiting makes sense if your transfer and hotel arrival are already arranged and you want time to compare prepaid options. Vodafone has a City Centre Mall store in Al Dafna, for example, so an airport purchase is not your only opportunity to get a local line.
Compare the same allowance, validity and SIM format before deciding that a city offer is cheaper. Ooredoo’s Go, Plus and Pro packages are sold through its normal Qatar retail channels as well as online; changing the purchase location does not itself establish a discount.
Our guide to buying a SIM card in Qatar covers the wider Ooredoo and Vodafone choice. Use it if you are planning a longer stay or want to compare local options beyond the airport counters.
During a brief Doha stopover, a separate shopping trip has little appeal. Arranging data before departure lets you use your limited time in the city without adding a mobile-store visit.
Roafly’s Qatar eSIM lets you prepare your mobile data before travelling, without swapping a physical SIM or fitting a purchase around airport shop hours. It suits a Doha stopover when your main needs are maps, messaging, bookings and browsing.
The plans are data-only, with hotspot use included within your purchased allowance and top-ups available. If you need a Qatar phone number or conventional local calls, an Ooredoo or Vodafone line serves that different requirement.
Check that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked, then install over a reliable Wi-Fi connection before departure. In Qatar, select the Roafly line for mobile data and follow its setup instructions, including the data-roaming setting. Keep data roaming off on your home line if you do not intend to use your home operator’s roaming service.

Hamad offers free airport Wi-Fi through the #HIAQatar network. Sessions last up to four hours, and you can reconnect after a session ends.
Open your phone’s Wi-Fi settings, select the network and follow the sign-in page. Save boarding passes and essential booking details offline so they remain available while you move through the terminal.
If you are only waiting for your next flight, try that connection before buying a Qatar mobile plan. If you are leaving for a hotel or exploring Doha, arrange mobile data before leaving the terminal so your connection continues beyond the airport Wi-Fi network.
Can I buy a Qatar SIM without a Qatar ID?
Yes. Tourist registration uses your passport. Bring the original document for an in-person purchase, or follow the operator’s passport-verification process when buying online.
Does a seven-day Ooredoo package mean the number expires after seven days?
No. Ooredoo distinguishes the package allowance from the line’s validity. Its Visitor SIM line is valid for one month and can be extended with an applicable recharge; the Go package’s included data and minutes have their own seven-day expiry.
Will the included Qatar data work on my next stop in the Gulf?
Ooredoo’s Visitor SIM data is for use within Qatar, and Roafly’s Qatar country plan covers Qatar. If your journey continues to another country, arrange a plan that explicitly covers that destination rather than treating a Qatar allowance as regional roaming.
