Queen Alia gives you a choice of three local mobile operators after arrival. The useful comparison is the complete price for your stay, whether you need a Jordanian number, and how much time you want to spend at a counter.

You can buy a SIM card at Queen Alia International Airport from Orange, Zain or Umniah in the public arrivals area. Buying there makes sense if you need local calls or help setting up your phone; preparing a Roafly eSIM before departure suits an unlocked, compatible phone when mobile data is enough.
Complete passport control, collect your luggage and pass through customs before looking for the mobile-service counters in the public arrivals hall. These are landside shopping options, so plan your purchase after entering Jordan.
| Operator | Where to look | Opening hours | Useful reason to stop |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orange | Public arrivals area; branch address specifies the arrival gate | Open around the clock | Compare visitor plans with data and calling allowances |
| Zain | Public arrivals area; Airport Arrivals branch | Open around the clock | Buy a local line after a late-night landing |
| Umniah | Public arrivals area | Hours not reliably published | Compare the counter's visitor offer with the other operators |
Counter information checked on 5 November 2026. Current airport price not reliably published for the three counters; national and online offers below are comparison references.
Orange's airport shop operates 24 hours, making it a practical stop when your flight reaches Amman overnight. Its visitor range combines mobile data with calling allowances, which can be useful for contacting a hotel, rental office or tour company by ordinary phone call.
As a price reference, Orange's online Visitors 15 offer includes 45 GB for 15 days at JOD 15 including tax, with 200 local minutes and 200 local SMS. This is the operator's online offer, checked on 5 November 2026; ask which visitor package and complete price the airport shop can provide.
Zain's Airport Arrivals branch has daily hours covering the full day and night. If you arrive late and need a Jordanian voice line before leaving the airport, it belongs on your shortlist alongside Orange.
Focus on the validity period and minutes to other Jordanian networks when comparing its offer. Calls within one operator's network and calls to any local network are different benefits, particularly if you will be contacting several hotels or drivers.
Umniah also has an airport counter, but its online promotions need careful separation from the offer at the desk. Its eShop's 10-day visitor package includes 35 GB for JOD 7 including tax, marked exclusively online when checked on 5 November 2026.
Use that distinction when comparing prices: a web-only promotion is not a price you can assume the airport cashier will honour. Ask for the counter's own allowance, validity and total before choosing.
Ask one direct question before handing over your passport: “What is the full amount I will pay today, including the SIM, tax and activation?” Get the answer in Jordanian dinars and keep the receipt.
Your quote should identify:
The data allowance and the date it expires.
The SIM or starter charge and any activation or service fee.
Included local calls and SMS, if you need them.
Whether the price is the initial purchase total or a later renewal charge.
Longer visitor plans can look attractive because of their large data allowance, but a 90-day bundle may add little value to a one-week trip. Compare the amount you will actually spend for your itinerary, rather than the largest number of gigabytes on the board.
The distinction also works in the other direction: a local voice-and-data bundle may be better value for heavy use than a smaller travel eSIM. The airport decision depends on the complete counter offer and the services you will use.
Keep your valid passport ready for registration. Umniah's visitor-line terms explicitly allow registration with a passport without a Jordanian ID. Let the operator complete the registration in your own name, and ask staff to explain any additional requirement before payment.
Bring a bank card and some Jordanian dinars as backup. Establish which payment method the counter accepts before starting registration, especially if you intend to use a foreign-issued card.
Before leaving the desk, ask staff to:
Activate the purchased package and show its allowance and expiry.
Select the new line for mobile data and adjust any required APN settings.
Turn off Wi-Fi and load a webpage to test the mobile connection.
Show you the local number and balance-check method, if included.
Your phone must be unlocked for use with another carrier. If it has no physical SIM slot, ask for a local eSIM before paying; Orange's visitor products have SIM and eSIM versions online, but the airport purchase still needs to match your device.
Customs comes before the public retail area. If you are bringing items beyond ordinary personal luggage, review Jordan's airport customs rules before your flight so any required declaration is ready.
Buying in the city makes sense when your transfer and first night's accommodation are already arranged and you can manage until a shop opens. Zain has branches at Abdali Mall and Mecca Mall, giving you concrete alternatives once you are in Amman.
Both mall branches list Saturday–Thursday hours of 10 am–10 pm and Friday hours of 2 pm–10 pm. Those hours were checked on 5 November 2026; allow for holiday changes if you plan a dedicated visit.
Waiting is worthwhile when a city shop offers a suitable package at a lower complete price, or when you prefer to compare plans without delaying your airport pickup. Include the cost and time of reaching the shop in that calculation. See the Jordan tourist SIM card guide for the wider local-plan and buying options.
If you are collecting a rental car and heading straight toward Madaba, the Dead Sea or Petra, arrange your connection before leaving Queen Alia. Having working data for the first journey is more useful than postponing the purchase for a saving you have not yet established.
Roafly's Jordan eSIM plans let you prepare mobile data before departure and avoid a SIM-shop stop on arrival. The Jordan product uses Zain with 4G where available and supports hotspot sharing from your purchased allowance.
The plans are data-only, with no Jordanian phone number or ordinary calls and SMS. They fit trips where you mainly need maps, bookings and internet messaging. Buy a local voice bundle if calling Jordanian numbers is an important part of your stay.
Use an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone, install while you have a dependable internet connection, and follow the setup instructions. In Jordan, select Roafly for mobile data and enable data roaming on that line. Keep data roaming off on your home line unless you intend to use your home operator's roaming plan.

If you are still comparing travel eSIM providers, the best eSIM for Jordan guide covers that choice separately from buying at an airport counter.
Queen Alia provides free airport Wi-Fi. Use the network identified by terminal signage or airport staff, then follow its connection screen.
Wi-Fi is useful for messaging your pickup contact, retrieving a reservation or finishing an eSIM download. Before heading outside, save your accommodation address and test whichever mobile line you will use for the journey.
Airport Wi-Fi only solves the terminal part of the trip. Our guide to how to get internet in Jordan compares the broader choices for your stay. If you are continuing on a longer drive, review travel safety in Jordan while planning the route and keep an offline map available.
Can I buy a SIM after midnight?
Yes. Orange and Zain's Queen Alia arrivals branches operate around the clock. Keep time for registration and testing before meeting your driver.
Can I reach these counters during an airside connection?
The counters described here are in public arrivals, beyond the entry process. If you are remaining airside between flights, use terminal Wi-Fi or a connection you have already arranged.
Does this guide cover Amman City Airport?
No. Queen Alia is AMM. Amman City Airport, also called Marka, is ADJ and has its own terminal services.
