Vienna Airport has a dedicated SIM shop in arrivals, but the advertised package price is only part of the bill. Here is what you will pay at the counter, where to find it and when arranging mobile data before your flight makes more sense.

You can buy a local SIM at Vienna Airport’s Welcome Yesss shop, open daily from 07:00 to 22:00. Buying there suits arrivals who want a physical SIM and help with registration; an eSIM is more convenient if you need data without a shop visit.
Welcome Yesss sells airport travel packages with a €15 shop service fee added to the package price. Compare the final column below when deciding what to buy.
| Airport package | Data in Austria / validity | Package price | Shop service fee | Initial airport total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| yesss! Travel M | 100 GB / 28 days | €9.90 | €15 | €24.90 |
| yesss! Travel Beat | Unlimited / 7 days | €15 | €15 | €30 |
| yesss! Travel L 5G | 200 GB / 28 days | €19.90 | €15 | €34.90 |
| yesss! Travel Unlimited | Unlimited / 28 days | €19.90 | €15 | €34.90 |
Airport offers checked on 4 November 2026 against yesss!’s travel page and available tariff documents. Initial totals combine the advertised package price and Welcome Shop service fee; later renewals and usage outside the package are separate.
Travel M is the sensible starting point for most visitors buying at the counter: 100 GB is a generous allowance for maps, messaging, browsing and ordinary holiday use. The seven-day unlimited offer costs more upfront despite its shorter validity, so its appeal is heavy data use during a short stay.
Travel L adds 5G access where available and a larger allowance. Travel Unlimited instead provides unlimited domestic data on 4G, with a maximum download speed of 50 Mbps and no included calls or texts. Paying the same total for these two packages buys different benefits.
Do not treat the Austrian allowance as an unrestricted European allowance. Travel M includes 15.2 GB for EU/EEA roaming and Travel L includes 30.3 GB; Travel Unlimited excludes data roaming. If Vienna is the first stop before Prague or Budapest, the roaming allowance matters more than the large domestic figure.
Look for Welcome Yesss in the arrivals hall, listed in the airport’s shop directory. Its daily opening hours are 07:00–22:00, including weekends.
The shop sells yesss! SIM cards and phone accessories, and staff can complete prepaid registration on site. Visa, Mastercard and American Express are among the listed payment methods, so bringing a payment card is a practical choice.
Allow time after landing for border formalities where applicable, baggage collection and reaching the shop. A flight scheduled to arrive just before 22:00 leaves little margin for buying and setting up a SIM.
Keep the SIM purchase separate from your arrival paperwork. Before packing, review Austria’s customs rules for the food, medicines, cash and other items you intend to bring.
Austria requires identification before a local prepaid SIM can be activated. Bring your passport or another accepted official photo ID; buying the plastic SIM alone does not complete the process.
Under Austria’s prepaid registration rules, providers and independent retailers can charge for registration services. Many providers also offer free online identification methods, so a shop service charge is a retail cost rather than a universal government registration tax.
At the counter:
Ask for the package name and final amount before paying.
Keep the SIM carrier, phone number and PUK code; yesss! uses these details for registration and account access.
Have the SIM registered and the chosen package activated.
Turn off Wi-Fi briefly and load a webpage to test mobile data before leaving.
Your handset must be unlocked to use another provider’s SIM. If it only accepts eSIM, ask about the format before paying for a physical starter pack.
Travel M, Travel L and Travel Unlimited have automatic package-renewal provisions when sufficient credit is available. Review renewal and top-up settings if you only need the service for this trip.
Shopping in the city gives you access to ordinary prepaid ranges rather than only the airport travel packages. It is worth considering if you can reach your accommodation using existing roaming, offline directions or a small amount of travel data.
HoT starter SIMs are sold at HOFER supermarkets. As checked on 4 November 2026, its national tariffs include HoT smart with 10,000 MB for €5.90 per 30 days and HoT fix with 70,000 MB plus 1,000 minutes or texts for €9.90 per 30 days. These are package charges: the starter SIM and any separately charged assistance must be accounted for when comparing the initial purchase.
Those offers are city-shopping alternatives, not prices quoted by the airport counter. The trade-off is the additional shopping stop and arranging registration yourself or with an appropriate retailer.
Our guide to Austria SIM cards for tourists covers the wider local buying options. Use it if a long stay, local calls or a large allowance matters more than finishing everything before leaving the airport.
Roafly’s Austria eSIM removes the need to find a shop, wait for opening hours or swap a physical SIM. Install it over Wi-Fi before departure on an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone, then follow the setup instructions when you arrive.
Austria plans include 5 GB for 30 days at $6.90 and 10 GB for 30 days at $10, checked on 4 November 2026. They provide data without an Austrian phone number or traditional calls and SMS. Hotspot uses your purchased allowance, top-ups are available, and identity verification is not required.
This suits a Vienna city break where you mainly need navigation, tickets and messaging. The airport’s local packages make more sense if you specifically want included voice service or a much larger domestic allowance.

Vienna Airport provides free Wi-Fi. Use it to open your accommodation details, message your host, download directions or complete an eSIM installation before leaving the terminal.
If you reach arrivals after the SIM shop closes, Wi-Fi gives you time to arrange the next step. Save the address and essential travel information offline before heading outside, especially if you are postponing a local SIM purchase until the following day.
Existing EU/EEA mobile customers should also check their home plan before buying anything. Eligible roaming plans generally work in Austria at domestic rates for temporary travel, subject to fair-use limits. UK and other non-EU/EEA plans have their own Austria roaming terms.

Can I buy a SIM at Vienna Airport on Sunday?
Yes. Welcome Yesss is listed as open every day from 07:00 to 22:00. Plan around the time you will actually reach the shop, rather than your aircraft’s scheduled landing time.
Does “unlimited” include calls and use outside Austria?
The package name matters. Travel Unlimited is the 28-day domestic data option and excludes included calls, texts and data roaming. Travel Beat is a different seven-day offer with its own voice and roaming allowances.
Can I keep my WhatsApp number when using an eSIM?
Yes. You can keep using WhatsApp with your existing registered number while Roafly supplies mobile data. You do not need to change your WhatsApp number simply because you change the connection used by the app.
If you want a physical SIM with help at the counter, budget from €24.90 for the listed airport packages. If your priority is getting through arrivals and on with a short visit, prepare your data before departure and use the airport Wi-Fi as a backup.
