At Stockholm Arlanda, buying a local SIM usually means stopping at a convenience store. Knowing which branch you can reach after landing—and how to register the card—makes the purchase much easier.

You can buy Swedish prepaid SIM starter packs through Arlanda’s 7-Eleven and Pressbyrån shops, with the operator selection depending on stock. Buying on arrival makes sense if you need a Swedish phone number; an eSIM arranged before departure is more convenient when you mainly need maps, messaging and mobile data.
Head for a shop before security, also called landside. These branches are accessible from the public terminal areas, so you can visit after collecting your bags and clearing customs.
| Shop | Location before security | Opening hours | Most useful for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7-Eleven | Terminal 5, arrivals hall | Open 24 hours | Terminal 5 arrivals, including late flights |
| 7-Eleven | Terminal 4, entrance level | Open 24 hours | An alternative landside stop |
| Pressbyrån | Terminal 2 | Daily, 05:15–21:00 | Shopping without leaving Terminal 2 |
| Pressbyrån | Terminal 5, departures hall | Monday–Friday, 05:15–19:00; Saturday–Sunday, 07:00–17:00 | Another daytime option in Terminal 5 |
Locations and opening hours checked with Swedavia on 4 November 2026. Current airport price not reliably published. Shop hours do not guarantee SIM stock or registration assistance throughout the day.
The Terminal 5 arrivals branch is the practical place to start if you land there overnight. Keep it separate from the other 7-Eleven in Terminal 5’s Marketplace, which is after security and serves departing passengers.
Across its Swedish stores, 7-Eleven sells starter packs and top-ups from operators including Comviq, Telia, Lyca, Telenor and Halebop. Ask which prepaid packs are available at the counter and whether the staff can register your chosen card using a foreign passport.
Pressbyrån is a straightforward daytime alternative, particularly if you arrive at Terminal 2. Its Swedish prepaid range includes Comviq, Telia, Lyca and Telenor, although the airport branch’s stock determines your actual choice.
The Terminal 5 departures-hall shop is still before security: “departures” here describes its location, rather than a requirement to have an onward flight. Other Pressbyrån branches beyond security are less useful once you have entered the public arrivals area.
Swedish prepaid SIMs must be registered and activated before use. You do not necessarily need a Swedish personal identity number or BankID, but you do need a registration route that accepts your identification.
Comviq offers a practical route for visitors: register online using Veriff and a valid photo ID, or through participating retailers such as Pressbyrån, 7-Eleven and Circle K. Its foreign-ID registration instructions explicitly cover customers without a Swedish personal number. Bring your physical passport for an in-store purchase.
Operator procedures differ. Telia directs customers without BankID or a Swedish personal number to a Telia store for registration assistance. That makes the registration method an important question before buying a Telia starter pack from a convenience store.
Before paying, settle four points:
Which data bundle is included, how long it lasts and whether it includes a Swedish number and domestic calls.
Whether the SIM can be registered with your passport at the shop or needs an online step.
The complete price in Swedish kronor, including the starter card, first bundle and any service charge.
Whether the shop accepts your intended payment method.
Your phone must be unlocked and able to take the physical SIM. After registration and loading the bundle, switch off Wi-Fi and open a webpage to test mobile data before leaving. Keep the SIM packaging and receipt until everything is working.
The starter card and the data bundle can be separate purchases. Ask for the total needed to leave with working service, rather than comparing only the price printed on a SIM pack.
Comviq’s national Fastpris tariffs provide a useful benchmark. Its price list effective from 1 September 2026 includes 3 GB for SEK 119, 5 GB for SEK 159 and 10 GB for SEK 199, each valid for 30 days. Each includes 20,000 domestic minutes and 20,000 SMS/MMS.
Comviq tariffs checked on 4 November 2026. These are national bundle prices, not complete Arlanda counter quotes; a starter SIM or retailer charge may be additional.
Waiting until the city is most useful when you want dedicated operator assistance or the airport does not have a suitable pack. Telia’s store at Kungsgatan 36 in central Stockholm is one concrete option for customers who need help registering without Swedish BankID. Bring your passport.
The reason to wait is access to the right shop and support, rather than an assumed airport surcharge. Compare local packages and registration options in our guide to Sweden tourist SIM cards if you are staying longer or need more than a basic arrival connection.
If your main needs are directions, transport bookings, WhatsApp and internet access, you can arrange your Sweden eSIM plan before travelling and skip the airport SIM purchase.
Roafly’s Sweden plans are data-only and do not include a Swedish phone number or conventional calls and SMS. They support 3, Telia and Telenor, with 4G/5G where available. Hotspot use comes from your purchased data allowance, top-ups are available, and no ID verification is required.
Use an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone and install the eSIM over a stable internet connection before departure. The plan’s validity starts when it first connects to a supported network in Sweden. Follow the supplied setup instructions, select Roafly for mobile data after arrival and keep data roaming disabled on your home line if you want to avoid using its roaming service.

The distinction is simple: buy a local SIM when the Swedish number and domestic calling bundle matter; use Roafly when getting online without a shop visit is the priority. Our best eSIM for Sweden comparison covers the broader provider choice.
Arlanda offers up to three hours of free Wi-Fi in public areas. Look for Airport-Guest and follow the sign-in instructions: the first hour is available immediately, and confirming your email address through the activation email adds another two hours.
Under the airport’s Wi-Fi terms, extra access costs SEK 49 for one hour or SEK 129 for 24 hours, including VAT. These terms were checked on 4 November 2026.
Use that connection to complete online SIM registration, download your eSIM or save your hotel address and onward ticket. Airport Wi-Fi is a useful bridge, but plan how you will connect once you leave the terminal. Our guide to how to get internet in Sweden compares the options for the rest of your trip.
Do I need another SIM if I already have an EU or EEA mobile plan?
Often, no. Eligible EU/EEA plans generally work in Sweden under roam-like-at-home rules, subject to fair-use conditions and your plan’s roaming data allowance. Check that allowance first; an existing plan may already cover your visit.
Will a Swedish prepaid bundle work in Denmark or Norway too?
Check the bundle’s EU/EEA allowance. The Comviq 3 GB, 5 GB and 10 GB Fastpris options above include the same respective data amounts for EU/EEA use. Other bundles can have different roaming limits, so compare the amount available abroad if Sweden is one stop on a longer trip.
Can I buy an airport SIM for an eSIM-only phone?
Only if the seller can supply a compatible eSIM product. Physical starter packs cannot be inserted into a phone without a SIM slot, so arrange an eSIM beforehand rather than relying on the convenience store’s physical-card range.
Before travelling, check Sweden’s airport customs rules if you are bringing alcohol, tobacco or restricted goods. Any declarations come before you reach the public terminal shops.
