Omantel, Ooredoo and Vodafone offer tourist plans for visitors to Oman. Local SIMs suit trips where you need an Omani phone number and regular calls, while Roafly provides a data-only alternative you can install before departure.
The detail that matters most is validity: a tourist line can remain active after its included package has expired. Match the allowance to your whole stay, especially if your itinerary continues beyond Muscat into the mountains, coast or desert.
These options cover different trip lengths and calling needs. Omantel’s entries are its online tourist eSIM offers; Ooredoo offers physical SIM and eSIM options.
| Operator / Option | Data | Package Validity | Published Price and Fees | Included Calls |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Omantel Tourist Explore eSIM | 8 GB | 14 days | OMR 5, including VAT | 50 local/international minutes combined |
| Omantel Tourist Discover eSIM | 18 GB | 14 days | OMR 10, including VAT | 100 local/international minutes combined |
| Ooredoo Tourist 5 | 8 GB | 10 days | OMR 5 + 5% VAT; OMR 1 SIM fee separately | 50 local + 50 international minutes |
| Ooredoo Tourist 10 | 18 GB | 15 days | OMR 10 + 5% VAT; OMR 1 SIM fee separately | 100 local + 100 international minutes |
| Vodafone Visitor 4 | 8 GB | 7 days | OMR 4 advertised package price | 50 flexi minutes |
| Vodafone Visitor 10 | 20 GB | 14 days | OMR 10 advertised package price | 150 flexi minutes |
| Roafly Oman eSIM | 5 GB | 30 days | $14.90 | Data only |
| Roafly Oman eSIM | 10 GB | 30 days | $22.00 | Data only |
Prices and plan details checked on 16 October 2026 and may change. Local prices are in Omani rials; Roafly prices are standard USD prices before discounts.
Omantel’s online eSIM prices do not establish the total for a physical SIM bought in a shop. Ooredoo’s separate SIM fee must be included in your purchase budget, with its tax treatment confirmed at payment. Vodafone’s advertised figures do not clearly establish the complete SIM, activation and tax-inclusive total.
The calling allowances also differ. Omantel and Vodafone use combined local/international or flexi allowances, while the selected Ooredoo plans provide separate local and international minutes. International minutes apply to eligible destinations, so your home country matters when comparing them.
Omantel’s tourist eSIM packages suit visitors who want a local operator’s service, calling minutes and a package covering a two-week itinerary.
Both selected packages include local and international SMS, alongside their combined calling allowance. Calls between eligible tourist-plan numbers are also included under the tourist terms.
The distinction between the line and its package is important here:
The selected data packages last 14 days.
The tourist SIM itself is valid for 30 days from activation.
Omantel permits resubscription to the same or another tourist package.
That longer line lifetime does not extend the original data allowance. If you stay beyond the package expiry, another subscription is needed for continued bundled use.
Omantel also sells tourist service through its outlets and partners with a valid passport. Ask specifically for a physical SIM if your phone does not support eSIM, and obtain the complete price for that format.
Ooredoo’s Tourist plans are useful when you expect to call accommodation or tour operators in Oman while also making conventional international calls.
Its separate calling allowances are worth considering alongside the data. The smaller package covers a shorter visit, while the larger selected package extends into a third travel week.
Physical SIM and eSIM formats are available through the tourist sales channel. The tourist line lasts 30 days, but each package has its own earlier expiry.
Ooredoo’s plans also include SMS and calls between tourist numbers. Keep those benefits separate from the data allowance when deciding whether the package suits your trip.
Vodafone’s Visitor plans offer a compact option for a brief visit and a larger allowance for a longer stay.
The selected plans include flexi calling minutes, local SMS and additional calling or messaging benefits. Their advertised package prices are useful starting points, but the complete amount payable should determine the purchase.
Vodafone permits repeated subscriptions to its visitor plans. Changing between plans takes effect immediately, and unused allowances do not carry over, so switching early can waste data or minutes you have already paid for.
Omantel and Ooredoo have sales points in the arrivals hall at Muscat International Airport. Buying there lets you arrange service before leaving for your accommodation.
Have your passport accessible and your phone charged. Before walking away, turn off Wi-Fi and test mobile data; test a normal call too if calling is part of the package you purchased.
Official stores are another route if you are already in Oman. Omantel directs visitors to its outlets or partners, while Ooredoo sells tourist SIMs through airport and other stores across the country.
Compare the same package, validity and SIM format when asking for a price. Airport and city offers should not be treated as interchangeable without checking what each purchase includes.
Omantel advertises tourist eSIM purchases online, and Ooredoo’s tourist shop offers an eSIM selection. These can suit phones without a physical SIM slot.
Local-operator eSIM service still belongs to the operator’s registration process. The digital format changes how the SIM reaches your phone; it does not remove the identity requirements associated with the local line.
Bring your original passport when buying a tourist SIM. Omantel requires a valid passport for its outlet purchase route, and Ooredoo explicitly requires the original passport for visitors from outside the GCC.
Ooredoo accepts an original national ID or passport from GCC nationals. Its Tourist plans are not available to Omani nationals or Omani resident-card holders; Vodafone’s Visitor plans are also restricted to non-residents and non-citizens.
Use this purchase checklist:
Check your phone’s compatibility. It must be carrier-unlocked, with a suitable physical SIM slot or eSIM support.
Present the required original identity document. Keep it with you during registration.
Agree on the complete purchase amount. Include the package, SIM, activation charges and applicable tax.
Record the package expiry. Keep the receipt and your new local number.
Test the service before leaving. Check data and any included calling service you expect to use.
Ask the salesperson to identify the package expiry and line expiry separately. Having a working phone number does not mean your original data bundle is still available.
Roafly’s Oman eSIM plans use Omantel and support 4G/5G where available. The selected packages give you a longer usage window than the local tourist bundles in the comparison, which is useful when your trip extends beyond two weeks.
You can install the eSIM before departure. Its validity starts when it first connects to a supported network in Oman, allowing you to prepare the phone while you still have a reliable internet connection.
Roafly’s Oman plans include:
No ID verification: no passport registration is required for the plan.
Hotspot support: sharing uses the purchased allowance without a separate hotspot quota.
Top-ups: additional data can be purchased when needed.
No automatic renewal: the purchase is prepaid.
Primary-SIM retention: compatible phones can keep the usual line alongside the travel eSIM.
Roafly is data-only and does not provide an Omani number or conventional calling minutes. Local SIMs have a clear advantage if you need those services, while Roafly suits navigation, messaging, browsing and booking access without arranging a local-store purchase.

Package expiry can matter as much as the number of gigabytes. Buying a large allowance with a short validity is poor value if it expires halfway through your trip.
Use your itinerary and phone habits to narrow the choice:
A short Muscat visit: compare the shorter local packages if you want an Omani number and calls.
A trip of around two weeks: select a package that remains valid through departure, including any final overnight stop.
A longer stay with moderate data use: Roafly’s longer validity can avoid renewing a shorter tourist bundle just to cover the remaining days.
Frequent calls to hotels, guides or family: compare local and international minute allowances, including the eligible international destinations.
Regular laptop tethering or video uploads: estimate your data needs separately from trip length.
Before driving between Muscat, Nizwa and more remote stops, download offline maps and save accommodation details. Ask remote properties about reception at their exact location if you need to work or remain reachable.
Choosing a larger data package gives you more data to spend wherever service is available. Your route still determines where you need offline preparation.
The included allowances in the local tourist plans discussed here are for use in Oman. Omantel and Ooredoo exclude roaming from their tourist bundles, and Vodafone’s visitor terms also specify domestic use.
Vodafone’s “Global & GCC Visitors” label describes its visitor offering; it does not turn the package into a GCC roaming allowance. Arrange separate coverage or an appropriate roaming option for an onward trip to the UAE.
Changing the SIM used for mobile data does not require changing the number registered to your WhatsApp account. Keep the existing account rather than registering again with the temporary local number.
Local and international calling minutes are used for ordinary phone calls. They should not be interpreted as a promise about the availability of WhatsApp voice or video calling.
Yes, on a compatible dual-SIM phone. Set Roafly as the mobile-data line and review the roaming settings on your home line.
Your home operator’s charges can still apply to calls, messages or other roaming services used through that line.
Local tourist SIMs offer useful calling benefits and an Omani number, with the right choice depending on your stay length and complete purchase cost. Roafly provides a practical alternative when you want Omantel data access, preparation before departure and a longer window to use your allowance.
Buy around the days you need service, the calls you expect to make and the total you will pay—not the headline data figure alone.
Roafly publishes this guide and offers the travel eSIM plans discussed above.
