Mauritius Airport’s main tourist SIM offers cost €30 for 30 days, but the purchase process and hotspot conditions deserve a closer look. Here’s where to buy, what to bring and when a smaller travel eSIM makes more sense.

Yes, you can buy a tourist SIM at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU), with airport sales or collection available through my.t and Emtel. Their local packages suit visitors who want a Mauritian number and substantial mobile data, while Roafly offers smaller data allowances you can arrange before departure.
Both operators advertise a €30 tourist package, including VAT. The price includes the tourist SIM offer and its bundled benefits; neither advertised package itemises an additional starter or activation charge.
| Operator | Advertised package price | Data and validity | Calls and SMS | Airport purchase route |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| my.t | €30, including VAT | Unlimited 5G data, subject to fair-use terms; 30 days | Rs 200 airtime and unlimited local SMS | Telecom airport counter; physical SIM or eSIM. Separate self-service eSIM kiosk available |
| Emtel | €30, including VAT | Unlimited 5G data; 30 days from activation | Rs 200 airtime and unlimited local SMS | Emtel airport counter; advance booking available |
Official tourist offers checked on 23 October 2026. Prices describe the operators’ advertised packages available through their airport channels. Ask for an itemised total if a counter offers a different package or additional service.
The headline price gives little reason to choose one operator over the other. Your more useful questions are whether you need a physical SIM, whether you want to share data and whether the purchase point will be available when you arrive.
Both local offers advertise 5G, but actual access depends on your handset and coverage. Their Rs 200 airtime allowance is a monetary balance for calls, rather than unlimited calling.
The my.t airport shop is at Counter C10 in the Arrival Lounge. Its published opening hours are 07:00–21:00 daily, including Sundays and public holidays, checked on 23 October 2026.
You can buy a tourist SIM on arrival or collect a pre-booked order. With advance booking, the airport visit still matters: my.t completes collection and activation after checking your documents.
The separate my.t digital kiosk sells eSIMs only and is advertised as accessible 24 hours a day. It is described as being near the baggage area, so look for it during the arrivals process rather than assuming it is beside the staffed shop.
At the kiosk, you scan your passport, enter your accommodation address and email, and pay by Visa or Mastercard. The eSIM QR code is supplied by email and as a printed copy; installation requires an internet connection.
Pre-booking is useful when you have settled on my.t, but its online purchases are non-refundable. The digital kiosk also provides a purchase route outside the staffed shop’s published hours, provided your phone supports eSIM.
Emtel confirms tourist SIM sales and collection at its SSR International Airport counter. Physical SIM and eSIM formats are available through its tourist offer.
A current official counter number and a dependable opening timetable were not available in the checked material. If you arrive late and need staff assistance, contact Emtel before relying on the counter being open.
Keep your booking confirmation accessible if you have ordered ahead. Before leaving the counter, switch off Wi-Fi briefly and test mobile data so any setup issue can be addressed while you are still there.
my.t’s unlimited tourist offer should not be treated as a shared family or laptop connection. The fair-use policy linked from its tourist package page prohibits hotspot and tethering use, including sharing data with another phone, tablet or computer.
That distinction matters more than the allowance if you intend to work from a laptop or connect a travel companion’s device. Unlimited data on your phone and permission to share that data are separate benefits.
Emtel’s headline tourist offer does not provide a clear hotspot commitment in the material checked for this guide. Ask specifically about tethering if sharing is essential to your trip.
Roafly allows hotspot use within your purchased data allowance, with no separate hotspot quota. Its suitability depends on how much data you need, rather than an unlimited-data headline.
Bring your passport or another valid travel document and the address where you will stay in Mauritius. Local SIM registration must be completed before activation, and operators cannot sell directly to someone under 18 under the applicable registration directive.
Keep these items ready:
Your original travel document.
Your hotel or accommodation name and full address.
Your booking confirmation if you ordered the SIM online.
An unlocked phone, with eSIM support if buying a digital plan.
A payment card and access to your email.
Saving your accommodation confirmation offline makes the address easy to provide. my.t accepts Visa and Mastercard for its tourist purchase process, including its digital kiosk. Emtel’s accepted card types and payment currencies at the airport were not reliably specified in the checked customer information.
Before paying, establish whether the quoted amount is in euros or Mauritian rupees and whether it includes everything needed to start using the package. Keep the receipt and any SIM packaging or activation details.
Arrival paperwork is a separate task from mobile registration. Review the Mauritius customs rules before travelling so you have any required declarations ready too.
Moving the purchase into town does not automatically produce a lower tourist price. The same €30 tourist offers are available through my.t Telecom Shops and Emtel showrooms away from the airport.
Be especially careful with comparisons that use resident starter packs. Emtel’s Rs 100 prepaid starter offer specifies eligibility for residents with a Mauritius identity card or Mauritian passport. It is not a like-for-like alternative for an ordinary visitor arriving with a foreign passport.
City shops are useful when you want assistance later or miss an airport counter. Verified my.t locations include Bagatelle Mall and Cascavelle Shopping Village in Flic en Flac. Choosing a shop already on your itinerary avoids making a separate journey solely to buy the same tourist package.
The wider Mauritius tourist SIM guide covers local purchasing and registration beyond the airport.
Roafly’s Mauritius eSIM suits visitors who want mobile data arranged before travel, need a smaller allowance or plan to use hotspot.
The current Mauritius product uses Emtel’s network with 4G where available. It is data-only, supports top-ups and does not include a Mauritian phone number or conventional calls and SMS.
Package examples checked on 23 October 2026 include:
1 GB for 7 days: $9.90.
3 GB for 30 days: $19.90.
5 GB for 30 days: $24.90.
You need a carrier-unlocked, eSIM-compatible device. Install the eSIM over a reliable connection before departure and follow its activation instructions. The product’s plan details specify that validity begins when it first connects to a supported network in Mauritius.

The trade-off is straightforward: Roafly gives you a defined data allowance without collecting a physical SIM, while a local tourist package includes a local number and an unlimited-data offer subject to its conditions. Heavy data users should compare those local packages carefully; Roafly’s advantage here is flexibility for smaller allowances and supported hotspot use.
Our Mauritius eSIM comparison covers the broader provider choice if you are still deciding before departure.
MRU provides free Wi-Fi in public areas inside the passenger terminal. Select 3Hours@MauritiusAirport, open the sign-in page and accept the terms; no Wi-Fi password is required.
The service is intended for general browsing and messaging. It does not support high-bandwidth activities such as streaming or large downloads, so download offline maps and complete major phone updates before travelling. Connection instructions are available in the airport’s official Wi-Fi guidance.
Airport Wi-Fi can help you retrieve a booking, contact your accommodation or complete an eSIM setup. Once you leave the terminal, you will need another connection for live navigation and messaging.
The guide to getting internet in Mauritius explains how mobile data, accommodation Wi-Fi and other options fit together during your stay.
If you need a local number and expect heavy data use, start with the my.t and Emtel tourist packages. Both have verified airport purchase routes, and their headline prices are the same.
If you arrive after 21:00, my.t’s staffed counter is outside its published hours. Its digital eSIM kiosk is a separate 24-hour option; arranging a compatible travel eSIM before departure also removes the need to find an open sales desk.
If you need hotspot or only a few gigabytes, Roafly offers a more suitable package structure to consider. Size the allowance around maps, messaging and browsing, especially if your accommodation provides Wi-Fi.
If your phone cannot use eSIM, plan around a staffed physical-SIM purchase and keep your passport and accommodation address ready. Use the airport’s Wi-Fi while you organise the purchase or your onward journey.
