Physical tourist SIM cards are reliably available from Turkcell, Türk Telekom and Vodafone on the landside Arrivals floor at Istanbul Airport. For most short visits, a pre-installed Roafly eSIM is the more practical option, while a physical Turkish SIM is better when you need a local number or domestic calls.

Airport stores, package prices and opening hours were checked on July 26, 2026 and may change without notice.
The important distinction is that an operator’s published package price is not necessarily the amount charged for a new physical line at IST. The final counter total can also include the SIM or starter-card charge, new-line taxes, activation costs or a dealer margin. Neither the airport nor the three operators currently publishes a dependable all-inclusive IST counter price.
Travelers who mainly need mobile data for maps, messaging, transport and bookings can arrange a Türkiye eSIM without depending on airport stock or counter opening hours.

Istanbul Airport’s official directory lists mobile stores on the Arrivals floor, landside. This means international passengers normally reach them after passport control, baggage collection and customs. Transit passengers who remain airside cannot rely on reaching these counters.

The official Turkcell outlet is listed on the landside Arrivals floor. The operator’s current Tourist Welcome Pack provides 20 GB and 200 domestic minutes for 28 days at an official campaign price of 1.800 TL, approximately US$38. This is the published package price, not a verified complete airport-counter total.
Ask the salesperson to state the full amount before registration begins. The receipt should separate the package, new SIM or line charge and any other fee. Confirm that mobile data works and that the package balance appears correctly before leaving the counter.
Türk Telekom has an official landside Arrivals-floor store, and the airport directory also lists Njoy as an arrivals retailer offering Türk Telekom SIM cards. Buying from the branded operator store is generally the clearest choice when both are open because it is easier to identify which charges are official package fees and which are retailer charges.
Türk Telekom is particularly relevant for Roafly users because the supplied Turkey eSIM network information is Türk Telekom. A local physical Türk Telekom line, however, includes a Turkish telephone number and voice/SMS benefits, while the Roafly plan is data-only.
Vodafone is also listed on the landside Arrivals floor. The airport directory separately lists a Wifist Vodafone point in arrivals, giving passengers a possible alternative when the main outlet is busy or unavailable.
Vodafone’s tourist package includes 20 GB and 750 domestic minutes. Its official tourist page says the package is added to eligible new tourist lines, but that the new SIM fee can vary between shops. Vodafone’s current pages are inconsistent about the exact SMS allowance, so confirm the complete package contents at the counter rather than relying on an unverified figure.
Turkcell publishes its Tourist Welcome Pack at 1.800 TL, approximately US$38, for 20 GB and 200 domestic minutes over 28 days. The campaign is shown as valid through December 31, 2026. A separate, verified IST total including the physical card and any counter charges is not published.
Türk Telekom currently publishes four one-time tourist packages:

| Package | Allowances | Official Package Price | Validity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Welcome 10 GB | 10 GB, 250 minutes and 250 SMS | 320 TL, approximately US$7 | 7 days |
| Welcome 25 GB | 25 GB, 750 minutes and 750 SMS | 420 TL, approximately US$9 | 28 days |
| Welcome 50 GB | 50 GB, 1.500 minutes and 1.000 SMS | 550 TL, approximately US$12 | 28 days |
| Welcome 75 GB | 75 GB, 750 minutes and 750 SMS | 550 TL, approximately US$12 | 15 days |
These are package prices. Türk Telekom states that tourist SIMs are available through airport dealers and its stores, but it does not publish the complete IST price for a newly registered physical line. The packages are one-time offers and do not automatically renew.
Vodafone’s Welcome to Turkey package includes 20 GB, 750 domestic minutes and selected messaging or social-media benefits for 28 days. The operator does not provide a dependable all-inclusive airport amount and explicitly says that the new-SIM charge may vary by shop.
Approximate USD figures above use the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye’s July 24, 2026 indicative selling rate of 47,2497 TL per US dollar, the latest published business-day rate before this guide was checked. Card-network or cash-exchange rates may differ.
A physical Turkish tourist SIM must be registered to the buyer. Bring your original passport, not only a photograph or photocopy. Vodafone states that foreign-passport details are used during registration and that a local address, such as a hotel or hostel, may be requested. Türk Telekom’s tourist packages also require a newly registered prepaid line with passport or accepted identity details.
Counter staff can complete line registration, insert the SIM and activate the selected package. Before walking away, check that:
Cellular data works with airport WiFi switched off.
The package allowance is visible or confirmed by the operator.
You know your Turkish telephone number.
Your original SIM has been stored safely.
You have an itemized receipt showing the total paid.
Payment methods for each IST mobile counter are not reliably published. Do not assume every foreign card, mobile wallet or currency will be accepted; confirm the payment method and total before handing over your passport.
Turkey’s IMEI rule is separate from SIM registration. A phone brought from abroad can operate on Turkish networks for up to 120 days after entry without local device registration. After that period, an unregistered device can be blocked from Turkish mobile networks. The official 2026 handset-registration fee is 54.258 TL, approximately US$1,148, so this primarily matters to long-stay visitors rather than ordinary tourists.
For other arrival restrictions, see Turkey Airport Customs Rules: Alcohol, Cigarettes & Vaping.

There is no verified basis for saying that every city store is cheaper than IST. Official package tariffs may be the same, but airport and city retailers can apply different new-line or dealer charges. A city store may offer a clearer choice of packages, but reaching one costs time and potentially transport money. See How to Get Internet in Turkey for the wider range of connectivity methods.
Roafly can be installed before departure, keeps your primary SIM in the phone and avoids airport queues, physical stock and passport handling at the counter. The Turkey plan is data-only and uses Türk Telekom. Hotspot use draws from the purchased data allowance; there is no separate hotspot quota. For a broader eSIM-focused comparison, see Best eSIM for Turkey.
A local SIM remains the better choice when you specifically need a Turkish number, domestic voice calls, conventional SMS or a line you intend to maintain during a longer stay.
Istanbul Airport provides free, unlimited WiFi through the iGA WiFi network. Passengers can sign in using a mobile-number verification option or obtain an access code from an airport kiosk by scanning a passport or identity document.
Use the kiosk method when an international number does not receive the verification message. The airport does not publish a guaranteed speed, so WiFi is best treated as an arrival backup for downloading an eSIM, contacting accommodation or checking transport—not as your only internet connection for the entire trip.
Short trip with an eSIM-compatible phone: Install Roafly before departure and keep the primary SIM available for incoming messages.
Need a Turkish telephone number: Buy a registered physical SIM from Turkcell, Türk Telekom or Vodafone after customs.
Arriving late at night: Roafly is safer than depending on a counter because reliable official opening hours are not published.
Remaining airside in transit: Use iGA WiFi or an already-installed eSIM; the verified operator stores are landside.
Staying longer than 120 days: Plan for the separate IMEI registration requirement as well as the SIM subscription.
Yes. Istanbul Airport officially lists Turkcell, Türk Telekom and Vodafone shops on the landside Arrivals floor.
Current airport price not reliably published. Operator package prices are available, but they do not consistently include the new physical line, SIM-card charge, taxes or airport dealer fees.
Yes. Bring the original passport used to enter Turkey. A hotel or accommodation address may also be requested.
The airport’s current public store pages do not provide sufficiently reliable opening hours. Do not plan a late arrival around an assumed 24-hour counter.
Yes. The airport currently advertises free and unlimited iGA WiFi, with mobile verification or passport/ID kiosk access.
Usually, provided the phone is network-unlocked. A foreign device can be used for up to 120 days before Turkey’s separate IMEI registration rule becomes relevant.
For most travelers visiting Turkey for a few days or weeks, Roafly is the simplest option: install it before departure, connect through Türk Telekom, keep your primary SIM and avoid uncertain airport totals. Choose a physical IST SIM instead when a Turkish number, domestic calls or standard SMS are important—and ask for the complete itemized price before the counter begins registration.
