Standard Digicel and SFR prepaid offers carry residence conditions, so their recharge prices are not universal tourist purchase prices. Before buying anything, find out whether your existing French or EU/EEA plan already covers Guadeloupe.

Do You Need a New SIM in Guadeloupe?

Guadeloupe’s connection to France changes the usual Caribbean SIM decision. French mainland mobile plans generally benefit from domestic overseas roaming rules, subject to the plan’s allowance and fair-use conditions. Eligible EU/EEA subscriptions can also include roaming here.

Look in your operator’s app for:

• Guadeloupe by name, particularly with UK, Swiss or travel plans whose destination lists vary.

• The data allowance available during your stay and any fair-use limit.

• Charges that allowance runs out.

Digicel: distinguish standard prepaid from the tourist offer

Digicel’s standard prepaid data passes offer substantial allowances, but the standard prepaid terms reserve the service for residents or people who can demonstrate stable links to the local zone. That zone includes Guadeloupe. Simply visiting for a holiday does not establish eligibility.

Calls-inclusive recharges also exist: the standard Pass Local at €10 includes 5 GB for seven days, 120 local calling minutes and unlimited local SMS. That is a recharge on an eligible line, so it cannot be treated as the complete price of a tourist SIM.

Ask specifically for Caribbean Nomad if you are visiting without local residence. It is marketed as Digicel’s tourist SIM, but starter-pack and recharge information differ across its offer pages. Get the initial pack’s data, validity, calling allowance and full price written down; a recharge amount alone will not answer those questions.

Orange Caraïbe Card: obtain a complete purchase quote

Orange’s Card prepaid range includes a 1 GB activation bonus. That bonus is a starting allowance, so the useful comparison is the price of the line plus enough data for your stay.

Public offer variants show different entry prices, and the complete Guadeloupe purchase conditions for nonresidents are not clear enough to give a dependable tourist total. Request quote covering the SIM, activation and chosen internet recharge, along with the bonus expiry and accepted documents. Treat “SIM offered” wording separately from the amount you will actually pay.

SFR La Carte: residence is the deciding condition

SFR La Carte offers prepaid service without a subscription, with small internet add-ons such as the allowance in the table. However, the La Carte contract summary requires customers to be domiciled in Guadeloupe, Martinique or French Guiana, with the northern islands excluded from its stated Guadeloupe scope.

Holiday accommodation alone should not be assumed to satisfy that condition. SFR La Carte is therefore not a straightforward recommendation for a short-stay visitor without qualifying domicile.

Where to Buy a SIM in Guadeloupe

Use the Digicel store locator to contact a suitable outlet before making a special trip. Ask whether it sells and activates the tourist starter pack; a listed shop’s presence does not establish that particular pack’s stock.

Do not rely on finding a SIM counter inside Pointe-à-Pitre airport: a current in-terminal seller could not be verified. Keep downloaded directions, your accommodation address and an arrival connectivity option ready, especially if you land outside normal shopping hours. Documents, Registration and Activation

Bring your passport, but do not assume a passport alone will secure every local prepaid offer. Digicel’s general prepaid purchase instructions also request proof of address, while the standard contract has the residence-or-stable-links requirement described above.

Accepted identity documents also depend on the offer. Digicel’s linked general terms name EU identity documents and residence permits among their examples, so visitors using a non-EU passport should establish the accepted document set for Caribbean Nomad before travelling to a shop.

At the counter, settle the purchase in this order:

1. Identify the right line. State that you are a short-stay visitor without local residence and ask which offer you can activate.

2. Get the complete price. Include the starter SIM, any activation charge and the data or calls package. Establish the accepted payment method before activation.

3. Separate the expiry dates. The data pass, promotional credit and underlying line may have different validity periods.

4. Test the service. Turn off WiFi and load a page. If calls or SMS matter, test those too and retain the number, receipt and recharge instructions.

Your phone must be unlocked to use another operator’s SIM. Keep the original SIM somewhere safe if you remove it; access to your usual number can still matter for banking verification and messages during the trip.

Local SIM or Roafly eSIM?

Local service makes sense when you need a telephone number, ordinary calls or SMS, or your phone cannot use eSIM. Its value depends on securing a tourist-eligible starter pack with enough service for the whole stay. Larger local recharge allowances may suit longer trips, but compare the full eligible purchase before deciding on price.

Coverage and Trips Beyond Guadeloupe

The network name tells you which local infrastructure a plan uses; it does not promise the same signal in every building, on every hillside or along every road. Download maps before exploring Basse-Terre’s mountainous interior, and save tickets and accommodation details for island excursions.

Treat travel beyond Guadeloupe as a separate coverage decision. A stop in Dominica or Saint Lucia requires the destination to be included in your specific plan, even if Digicel operates there too. Regional roaming belongs to the exact package’s terms, not to the operator’s brand name.
