Buying a SIM at Tunis–Carthage can get your phone ready before you leave the terminal. The useful comparison is the complete starting cost, including the card, rather than the advertised data price alone.

Yes, you can buy a SIM at Tunis–Carthage Airport: Orange confirms an airport shop and tourist offers. Buying on arrival suits visitors who want help with setup, while arranging an eSIM before departure avoids depending on a counter being open.
Orange’s tourist packages include a separate 2 TND physical SIM charge. These are the published package-plus-card totals for its tourist offer, which lists Tunis–Carthage among its sales locations.
| Orange tourist data | Validity | Data package | Physical SIM | Published total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 GB | 30 days | 25 TND | 2 TND | 27 TND |
| 27 GB | 30 days | 33 TND | 2 TND | 35 TND |
| 55 GB | 30 days | 58 TND | 2 TND | 60 TND |
Orange tourist offers checked on 22 October 2026. Totals are calculated from the published package price and physical SIM fee. No separate activation fee is listed; any additional counter charge should be itemised before payment.
The middle option costs 8 TND more than the smallest and adds 17 GB. That makes it worth considering if you expect substantial mobile use, but buying more data only saves money when you will use it.
Treat these as internet allowances. Included ordinary calls, SMS and any eSIM issuance fee need to be established for the specific offer you buy.
Start your search in the public arrivals hall after passport control, baggage collection and customs. Local arrival guidance places telecom counters there, although a current official counter-by-counter terminal map was not available.
Orange’s airport shop is independently confirmed by its April 2026 refurbishment announcement. Ask airport staff for the Orange shop if it is not immediately visible; avoid relying on an old photograph or a particular baggage-carousel number to locate it.
Ooredoo has also documented airport collection for Holiday SIM reservations. If you have reserved one, follow the collection instructions in your confirmation. Tunisie Telecom is another reported airport option, but current airport prices are not reliably published or verified for either operator in this comparison.
Hours are not reliably published for the counters covered here. An airport operating overnight does not establish that every mobile shop stays open. Late arrivals should have a connection arranged in advance or enough information saved offline to reach their accommodation.
Before flying, review Tunisia’s airport customs rules, especially if you are carrying items or cash that may require a declaration.
Bring your original passport and a carrier-unlocked phone. Ooredoo’s published airport collection instructions require the passport for identification and signing the contract, even after passport information has been supplied during reservation.
Your phone must also support the format being sold. Physical SIM cards require a suitable tray; local eSIMs require an eSIM-compatible model. Establish the format before the seller opens a pack or begins registration.
Work through these checks at the counter:
Get the complete price. Include the SIM or eSIM, data package and any activation or service charge.
Identify the allowance and expiry. Ask when validity begins and whether unused data expires at the end of the package.
Confirm calling features if needed. Internet access alone does not establish included local minutes, SMS or international calls.
Complete registration in your name. Keep the receipt and the information needed to manage the line.
Test with Wi-Fi switched off. Open a webpage or map over mobile data before leaving.
Find the balance and recharge controls. Have staff show you how to check the remaining allowance.
Foreign-card acceptance has not been verified for every airport counter. Ask about payment before starting registration, and keep Tunisian dinars available as a backup rather than assuming a card-only purchase will work.
If you are staying for an extended period or returning with a previously used handset, also ask about Sajalni device registration. Registering the subscriber and registering a phone brought from abroad are separate issues; the Tunisia SIM buying guide explains the distinction.
Buying in town makes sense when you already have enough connectivity for your transfer, your airport counter is closed, or you want more time to compare offers. It is less attractive when getting online immediately is your main priority.
There is no verified like-for-like city-store total here that proves waiting until Tunis will save money. Ask an official operator shop for the complete new-line price, not just the cost of adding data to an existing SIM.
Compare these details with the airport offer:
The total amount needed to start using the service.
Data allowance and validity.
Included calls or SMS.
Eligibility for a visiting passport holder.
Whether the quoted price applies to a walk-in purchase.
If you are deciding between mobile data, home-network roaming and Wi-Fi for the whole trip, explore the wider internet options in Tunisia.
Roafly’s Tunisia eSIM lets you arrange mobile data before departure and leave the airport without buying a physical card.
Tunisia plans use Ooredoo TN, with 4G/5G where available. They are data-only, support top-ups and allow hotspot sharing within the purchased allowance, without a separate hotspot quota. They do not include a Tunisian phone number or ordinary calls and SMS.
Install the eSIM over a reliable internet connection before travelling. Your phone must be eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked; the plan’s validity begins when it first connects to a supported network in Tunisia.
This suits an arrival where maps, messaging and access to bookings matter more than a local phone number. If ordinary local calls are essential, compare a local package that explicitly includes them.

The Tunisia eSIM comparison covers provider and plan choices in more detail.
Tunis–Carthage is covered by OACA’s free airport Wi-Fi service. The announced network name is OACA_AEROPORT_WIFI_FREE; the airport authority’s May 2025 announcement, reported by Tunisian media, described access without registration or payment. Current connection performance has not been independently tested for this guide.
Verify the network name against airport signage or with staff before connecting. Wi-Fi can help you contact your driver or retrieve a booking, but it does not provide mobile connectivity once you leave its range.
Save your accommodation address, transfer instructions and essential booking details before the flight. Installing an eSIM beforehand also avoids making your arrival setup depend on airport Wi-Fi.
Buy at the airport if you want a physical SIM and help testing it before leaving. Orange’s published totals give you a useful reference for assessing the offer at the counter.
Arrange Roafly before departure if you want mobile data without a shop visit, particularly when arriving late or meeting a driver immediately after customs.
Wait until you reach Tunis if you already have a working connection and prefer to compare local offers at your own pace. Compare the complete purchase cost rather than assuming a city shop must be cheaper.
Ask specifically for a calling package if you need to reach hotels, drivers or businesses through the ordinary phone network. A large internet allowance does not answer that requirement.
Roafly publishes this guide and sells the travel eSIM described above.
