Slovakia’s main prepaid choices are Orange Prima Voľba, O2 Voľnosť, Telekom Easy and 4ka, with different starter costs and activation conditions. O2 is worth considering for a larger data allowance with a local number, while Telekom offers a clearly documented shop route for foreign customers; Roafly suits visitors who want data on a compatible eSIM phone.
Slovakia SIM card prices at a glance
Compare the money needed to get connected, not just the advertised SIM price. Included starter credit can pay toward an add-on, while a welcome data bonus may require a separate top-up.
| Option | Data and validity | Starting payment and package cost | Key condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Orange Prima Voľba | 10 GB for 30 days, introductory bonus | €12: €5 SIM with €5 credit, plus a minimum €7 qualifying top-up | Activate the welcome bonus within 31 days of registration |
| O2 Voľnosť | 10 GB for 28 days | €2 SIM with €2 credit; add credit to fund the €9 bundle | Final outlay depends on the available top-up amount |
| Telekom Easy | 7 GB for 30 days | €5 SIM with €5 credit; add credit to fund the €9 bundle | Foreign customers should buy in a Telekom shop |
| 4ka starter SIM | 1 GB for 30 days | €4, including €4 credit and the introductory data allowance | Small allowance; arrange document approval before buying |
| Roafly eSIM | 10 GB or 20 GB, each for 30 days | US$14 for 10 GB; US$22 for 20 GB | Data; requires an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone |

O2 and Telekom’s starter credit counts toward the data bundle, so adding the full SIM price to the full bundle price would overstate the underlying cost. The amount you actually hand over may still be higher because top-ups come in set amounts; ask for the total payment and remaining credit together.
Which local prepaid SIM should you choose?
Orange Prima Voľba: understand the welcome bonus
Orange’s introductory offer is useful if you can complete the first top-up and activate the bonus during registration. The advertised total of up to 30 GB is spread across three monthly awards, rather than delivered as allowance when you buy the SIM.
Under the Prima Voľba welcome offer, the first qualifying top-up unlocks a 10 GB bonus, which you activate through Môj Orange or the specified SMS process. Further qualifying monthly top-ups can unlock two more awards, each with its own validity.
Ask staff to activate the first allowance and show its expiry before you leave. Orange also sells regular paid data bundles, so make clear that you want the introductory offer if that is the price you have budgeted for.
O2 Voľnosť: more data, with renewal settings to manage
O2’s 10 GB bundle offers more data than the standard Telekom bundle compared here, although its four-week cycle ends two days earlier. That difference matters on a month-long stay: record the expiry date instead of assuming every prepaid bundle lasts 30 days.
Two settings deserve attention after activation:
-
The bundle renews automatically when enough credit is available.
-
Datahit can renew the allowance early after you use it up, creating another charge against your balance.
Switch off unwanted renewal features for a-off trip. O2’s top-up payment restriction also matters if your bank card was issued outside Slovakia or Czechia; the payment section below explains the alternatives.
Telekom Easy: a practical shop purchase for foreign visitors
Telekom Easy combines prepaid service with optional 30-day bundles. Its standard data allowance in the table suits visitors who want a local number and can keep heavier downloads on Wi-Fi.
The purchasing distinction is useful: Telekom’s Easy ordering rules require a Slovak identity card and permanent residence for orders, while directing foreign customers to a Telekom shop. Plan for an in-person purchase instead of relying on the checkout.
Ask staff to select the intended bundle and explain automatic renewal. Short-term welcome campaigns can add data, but the standard allowance is the safer basis for comparing a trip booked months ahead.
4ka: low starting cost for light use
4ka’s starter allowance works best when mobile data supplements accommodation Wi-Fi. gigabyte leaves much less room for video, tethering or frequent large downloads than the other packages compared here.
Additional data is available, including recurring bundles, but that changes the total cost. Buy the small starter because it fits your usage, not because its low opening price makes it equivalent to a larger package.
Where to buy a SIM card in Slovakia
Staffed operator shops are the most practical starting point when you need help with foreign identification, registration and the first bundle. In Bratislava or Košice, leave time for a shop visit before a longer train journey or departure for the mountains.
-
Orange, O2 and Telekom: use an operator shop for help choosing and activating prepaid service.
-
4ka: participating Slovenská pošta branches provide a physical sales channel; establish whether the outlet can complete your registration before paying.
-
Retail packs and delivery: check who handles activation and whether the process accepts your identification. Buying the pack alone does not resolve registration.
Bratislava Airport’s current public retail information does not confirm prepaid SIM stock or an activation service. Avoid making an airport SIM purchase essential to your arrival plan; arrange mobile data beforehand or use a city shop it opens.
Beyond the cities, compare coverage for your actual accommodation and route rather than choosing a network from a nationwide claim. Download maps before heading into the High Tatras, especially if navigation will be important away from towns.
Registration, activation and topping up
Bring identification and use a staffed counter
Take your passport or national identity card to the shop. Accepted documents vary by operator and purchase channel, so ask staff to approve your document before you buy an unregistered pack.
O2’s app supports selected foreign identity documents, not every passport worldwide. Telekom directs foreign customers to stores; for Orange and 4ka, the public information reviewed did not establish blanket acceptance of every foreign passport, making an assisted purchase the more practical route.
Before leaving the counter:
-
Confirm that the SIM is registered and active.
-
Have staff activate the intended data bundle or welcome bonus.
-
Turn off Wi-Fi and load a webpage to test mobile data.
-
Note the remaining credit, data expiry and renewal settings.
Your phone must also be unlocked for another provider’s SIM. If you replace your main SIM, ordinary calls and verification texts sent to that number will depend on whether your phone can keep both lines active.
Check how you will add credit
O2’s online credit top-up service accepts payment cards issued in Slovakia or Czechia. Visitors with cards issued elsewhere should arrange another supported method, such as a recharge coupon or participating retail top-up point.
That restriction concerns O2’s web top-up channel; it is not a blanket rule for every payment method in Slovakia. During purchase, ask how to recharge again using the payment method you actually carry.
Keep mobile data off until the bundle is active to avoid using credit under another tariff. At the end of the trip, disable any recurring top-up arrangement as well as unwanted bundle renewal.
Using a Roafly eSIM instead of buying a local SIM
Roafly’s Slovakia eSIM is an alternative when you mainly need maps, messaging, bookings and internet access. It uses Orange and O2 networks, with the two 30-day package sizes shown in the comparison table.
Install the eSIM before travelling while you have a reliable internet connection. The package’s validity begins when it first connects to a supported network in Slovakia, and hotspot use shares your purchased data allowance.

Manage your eSIM in the app
Install, top up and track data.
Roafly is data: it does not provide a Slovak phone number, conventional voice minutes or SMS. Internet calling and messaging apps can use the connection, but a local prepaid SIM is more suitable if you need ordinary calls on a local number.
Check eSIM compatibility and carrier unlocking before purchase, then select the travel eSIM for mobile data. Keep data roaming on your home line switched off unless you intend to use your home provider’s roaming service, and avoid automatic switching back to that line for data.
The guide to the best eSIM options for Slovakia covers the eSIM choice in more detail if you are still deciding how to connect.
Do you need a new SIM if you already have EU roaming?
Your existing EU or EEA mobile plan may already cover Slovakia under roam-like-at-home rules, subject to its roaming allowance and fair-use terms. Check those limits first: buying another SIM may add cost without solving a problem.
Buying a Slovak SIM does not automatically give you the full domestic allowance abroad. Orange’s introductory 10 GB bonus, for example, has a smaller EU roaming allowance, so compare the roaming entitlement separately if your route crosses borders.
Arriving through Vienna or continuing to Budapest also changes the eSIM decision. The Roafly Slovakia country package should be planned around use in Slovakia; arrange coverage for Austria or Hungary separately if you need mobile data there.
Our guide to internet options in Slovakia compares roaming, mobile data and Wi-Fi for trips where a new local SIM may be unnecessary.
Slovakia tourist SIM card FAQs
What is the cheapest SIM card in this comparison?
O2 has the lowest SIM purchase price, but its starter price does not include the 10 GB bundle. Among the options shown with a clearly established starting payment and included data, 4ka has the lowest outlay, with a much smaller allowance.
Can tourists buy a Slovak SIM?
Online ordering and successful activation are separate questions. Telekom reserves its Easy order process for qualifying Slovak customers, while other operators’ identity checks can depend on the document; a shop purchase is the more practical plan when remote eligibility is uncertain.
Will a prepaid SIM give me a Slovak phone number?
The local prepaid products compared here provide a mobile line for ordinary calls and texts, charged according to the tariff or an added bundle. Roafly’s travel eSIM provides mobile data without a local phone number.
Which option makes sense for a short visit?
Use an existing eligible roaming allowance if it already covers your needs. Otherwise, a Roafly eSIM suits a compatible phone when you need data; a local prepaid SIM is worth the shop visit when a Slovak number or ordinary calls matter.
Roafly publishes this guide and sells the travel eSIM described above.
