Yes, you can buy a prepaid SIM card at Sarajevo International Airport: BH Telecom sells Ultra SIM cards and tourist packages in the ground-floor hall of Terminal B. Buying there suits visitors who want a local number or a large data allowance, while preparing a Roafly eSIM before departure is more practical when you need mobile data without depending on the counter being open.
| Option | Where to get it | Main reason to choose it | What to allow for |
|---|---|---|---|
| BH Telecom airport SIM | Terminal B, ground-floor hall | Local number and tourist packages | Shop hours, stock and the total quoted at the counter |
| Local SIM in Sarajevo | An operator shop in the city | More time to discuss packages or compare operators | Internet for the journey from the airport |
| Roafly eSIM | Online, with installation before travel | Mobile data without visiting a shop or replacing a physical SIM | An unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone; no local number |
Airport sales point and facilities checked on 13 October 2026. Current airport price not reliably published.
Look for the BH Telecom sales point in the hall on the ground floor of Terminal B. The airport’s counter listing confirms sales of Ultra prepaid SIM cards and Ultra tourist packages, along with credit top-ups and additional-package activation.
Ask for a tourist starter package and specify whether you want a physical SIM. Adding credit to an existing number is a different transaction from buying a new SIM with an included data bundle.
BH Telecom is the airport seller verified for this guide. Roafly’s access to m and HT Eronet does not indicate that either operator has a shop at SJJ.
The useful starting point is the operator’s physical-SIM tariff. BH Telecom’s published national tourist USIM offers include:
Tourist 1: 20 BAM, with 40 GB for 10 days and 3 BAM of call and SMS credit.
Tourist 2: 40 BAM, with 100 GB for 30 days and 5 BAM of call and SMS credit.
BH Telecom national USIM offers checked on 13 October 2026. These are package reference prices, not independently confirmed airport checkout totals. BAM and KM refer to the same currency.
Before paying, ask for the complete amount covering the SIM, your chosen package and any activation or service charge. This establishes what you will actually spend rather than relying on a headline data price.
Physical-SIM and online eSIM prices should not be mixed. BH Telecom’s online tourist eSIM listings show different totals, so a screenshot of an eSIM offer is not a reliable quote for a physical SIM at the airport.
The local packages can make sense for heavy data use or ordinary phone calls. If your main needs are maps, messaging and accommodation details, convenience and the allowance you will actually use matter as much as the largest number of gigabytes.
Do not depend on an overnight SIM purchase at SJJ. Published shop hours differ between the airport and the operator, with a particularly important discrepancy on Sundays.
BH Telecom’s branch directory gives these hours for its airport location:
Monday–Friday: 08:00–21:00, with breaks at 11:00–11:30 and 16:15–16:45.
Saturday: 09:00–19:00, listed as two consecutive shifts.
Sunday: 11:00–16:00.
The airport page instead gives 08:30–20:30 from Monday to Saturday and 10:00–18:00 on Sunday. These conflicting listings were checked on 13 October 2026; the branch phone number is +387 33 498 770.
If your flight lands close to closing time, allow for the time needed to reach the terminal hall. A flight’s scheduled landing time is not the time you will be ready to buy a SIM. Preparing connectivity before departure is the simpler choice for a tight arrival window.
Your phone must be carrier-unlocked. Physical-SIM buyers also need a compatible SIM slot; eSIM-only phones require a digital plan.
Keep your passport available. BH Telecom’s published Ultra registration procedure accepts a passport and uses the Ultra certificate supplied with the SIM. Retain that certificate, the packaging and your receipt. The airport listing does not set out a complete tourist registration procedure, so ask staff what applies to your purchase.
Payment methods at this specific counter are not clearly published. Ask whether your card is accepted before the package is activated, and do not assume you can pay in euros.
Before leaving the counter:
Confirm the package: data allowance, validity, local number and call credit.
Establish the start time: ask when the package’s validity begins.
Test mobile data: switch off Wi-Fi and load a webpage.
Keep the recovery details: save the phone number, PIN/PUK information and top-up instructions.
You can request help with installation or activation, but leave only after checking that the connection works on your own phone.
Buying in the city gives you time to compare local operators, discuss a longer stay or resolve a setup problem. It is not automatically cheaper: a lower city price needs to be established against the airport’s actual quote for the same package.
BH Telecom has city locations at Branilaca Sarajeva 25 and Sarajevo City Center, Vrbanja 1. Opening times vary by branch, so use the operator’s shop directory for the location you plan to visit.
The practical trade-off is the journey into town. Have your accommodation address and arrival instructions saved before leaving the terminal if you plan to buy later.
Our guide to buying a tourist SIM in Bosnia and Herzegovina covers the wider local-SIM decision. The airport counter remains the more direct option when it is open and has the package you need.
Roafly’s Bosnia and Herzegovina eSIM lets you arrange mobile data before flying and keep your physical SIM in place. The country plan supports m and HT Eronet, with actual network availability depending on your location and device.
The plan is data-only, with no Bosnian phone number or conventional calls and SMS. You can use messaging and calling apps over the data connection. Hotspot is supported within your purchased allowance, and top-ups are available.
Install the eSIM over a stable internet connection before departure, then follow the setup instructions to select it for mobile data on arrival. Your device must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. Keep data roaming disabled on your home SIM if you want to avoid using its roaming data.
This is particularly practical for evening arrivals, short stays and trips where you would otherwise buy a large local bundle mainly to get online for the first journey.

If you are still deciding between travel eSIM providers, compare Bosnia and Herzegovina eSIM plans before choosing your allowance and validity.
Choose your data plan around the full route if Sarajevo is the start of a trip through several countries.
Roafly’s Balkans eSIM covers 10 countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia. It is a useful alternative for routes such as Sarajevo–Mostar–Dubrovnik or Bosnia–Montenegro, where a Bosnia-only plan would cover only part of the journey.
The country and regional products are separate plans. Kosovo is not included in this 10-country Balkans package.
Local tourist packages may also include regional usage, but “Western Balkans” and “Balkans” are not interchangeable coverage lists. Match the included countries to your itinerary before buying, particularly when crossing into Croatia or Slovenia.
SJJ offers 60 minutes of free Wi-Fi in the arrivals area, main hall and departure gates. Longer access is available through vouchers sold at airport catering outlets, as described in the airport’s Wi-Fi information.
Use that connection to retrieve a booking, message your accommodation or finish a setup step. Installing an eSIM before the flight leaves fewer tasks to complete after landing.
If you are weighing airport Wi-Fi against roaming, a local SIM or an eSIM for the rest of your stay, our guide to internet options in Bosnia and Herzegovina explains those choices.
Buy at the BH Telecom counter when you want a local number or a large tourist allowance and can reach the shop during its opening hours. Prepare a Roafly eSIM before departure when mobile data is the priority and you want to leave the terminal without a SIM-shopping stop.
Waiting for a city shop works when you already have a connection for the transfer. If the itinerary continues across borders, choose the country coverage before choosing the package size.
