KKTCell: check the SIM format and expiry

KKTCell's Turist 40GB package is a useful benchmark for a week-long visit. Its published physical SIM and eSIM prices differ, so ask for the format your phone supports.

The package includes 125 minutes and 100 SMS. 25 of those minutes cover the wider international destinations specified in the terms, with exclusions; do not assume the entire allowance covers calls to your home country.

Keep three details in mind:

• The base package lasts seven days and does not renew automatically.

• An advertised extra 10GB requires an SMS request. That bonus has its own 15-day validity; it does not extend every benefit in the original package.

• Once benefits run out, further usage is charged under the standard tariff.

Its domestic data allowance is for Northern Cyprus. Calls toward Turkey do not mean the included data also works while you are in Turkey.

Telsim: distinguish the monthly offer from the airport special

Telsim's tourist prepaid packages include both a 30-day option and shorter local eSIM offers.

Tourist 27 separates general data from its Facebook and Instagram allowance. It also lists unlimited WhatsApp and Messenger use, 250 minutes within Northern Cyprus and toward Turkey, plus 50 international minutes. The app-specific allowance should not be counted as unrestricted data for maps, streaming or laptop work.

The Ercan offer in the table is specifically a local eSIM promotion at the airport. Its 150 minutes cover local and Turkey destinations; it should not be presented as an island-wide physical SIM price.

Both offers are for new prepaid lines. They do not renew as the same tourist package after expiry, although another package can be purchased to continue using the line. Ask what that next package would cost if your stay extends beyond the initial validity.

Where to Buy a SIM Card in Northern Cyprus

Ercan Airport

Ercan is relevant to this comparison because some offers depend on collecting or buying your line there. Check the exact offer name and format at the counter, especially when comparing an airport advertisement with an operator's general price list.

KKTCell's online tourist-line application currently advertises a separate Fast Tourist package with 55GB for 15 days at 599 TL. It requires collection at the Turkcell contact center at Ercan, followed by identity checks and completion of the subscription paperwork.

That price was checked on 5 September 2026 and may change. The website application is a preliminary request: submitting it does not activate the line. Its terms require collection within 30 days and state that amounts collected or preauthorized are not refunded if the stated collection or subscription requirements are not met.

Operator stores

Turkcell contact centers and Telsim shops provide alternatives to airport purchasing. Store visits are especially useful when you need a physical SIM, help checking compatibility or an explanation of the call allowance.

Before agreeing to a package, ask for:

• The package name, SIM format and expiry date.

• The full amount payable today, including any mandatory first top-up or separate charge.

• Confirmation of the destinations covered by calls and SMS.

• An explanation of what happens after the data or validity expires.

Keep the receipt and activation message. Check that mobile data works before leaving, and save the operator's instructions for checking your remaining balance.

Airport and city-store prices should be compared for the same offer and format. A promotion restricted to Ercan does not establish the standard price elsewhere.

Passport Registration and the 90-Day Phone Rule

Registering the line

Bring your original passport when purchasing a tourist line. KKTCell's tourist application accepts an ID or passport number, while Telsim's new-line guidance specifies an identity card or passport and completion of subscription paperwork.

Treat the purchase as two steps: selecting the package and completing the identity and subscription process. Local eSIM format does not, by itself, make that process fully remote.

Your phone must also be unlocked. Check whether it supports the selected format before paying: an eSIM-only handset cannot use a physical SIM, and a phone without eSIM support needs a physical card.

Registering the phone itself

IMEI registration concerns the device, separately from the SIM subscription. Under the BTHK mobile-device registration rules, a phone brought from abroad can be used without registration for a total of 90 active days within a calendar year.

Previous use during the same year matters. Returning for another holiday does not give the device a fresh 90-day allowance on each arrival.

Short visits may therefore fit within the remaining allowance, while extended or repeated stays require closer attention. Check your device's status if you receive an unregistered-device message; changing the SIM does not complete the phone's registration.

Local SIM or Roafly eSIM: Which Fits Your Trip?
