Quick answer: Claro SIM sales have been reported inside Managua Airport, but current counter locations, opening hours and complete airport prices are not reliably published. Airport purchase is worth considering if you want a local number and have time to arrange setup; a preinstalled travel eSIM is more practical when mobile data and a quick departure are your priorities.
The useful comparison is between buying on arrival, visiting a staffed city store and arranging data before departure. Your need for local calls, your phone’s SIM support and your onward plans matter more than a headline data allowance.
| Option | Best fit | What to account for |
|---|---|---|
| Reported SIM sellers at MGA | Buying a local line before leaving the airport | Seller availability, registration and the complete SIM-plus-package quote |
| Claro or Tigo in the city | Comparing local prepaid offers or getting help with a new line | Store opening hours, the SIM cost and any detour |
| Roafly eSIM on Claro | Arranging mobile data before arrival | An unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone; no local number or ordinary calls/SMS |
Checked 7 October 2026. Airport retail details remain unconfirmed; national operator recharge prices are not complete airport purchase prices.
If you are also weighing hotel Wi-Fi or your home operator’s roaming package, compare the wider internet options in Nicaragua before deciding how much connectivity to arrange for arrival.
Recent traveler reports describe Claro sales inside the airport and phone-company desks after customs. Treat those reports as a lead: once you enter public arrivals, ask airport staff to direct you to the current staffed SIM seller. We cannot give a verified counter number or precise terminal location.
Hours not reliably published. If your flight arrives late, arrange a working connection or an offline pickup plan before departure.
Current airport price not reliably published. Ask for one total covering the SIM, selected package and any setup or dealer charge. Get the general-use data allowance, validity and included calls alongside that total; a low recharge price alone does not tell you what a newly connected line will cost.
Bring your original passport and ask whether the seller can register a new prepaid line for a foreign visitor. Airport-specific registration procedures and payment options remain unconfirmed, so establish those before paying, including whether your foreign bank card is accepted and which currency will be charged.
Before leaving the counter:
Have the seller show you the active package, its expiry and the local number, if included.
Separate general mobile data from bonuses limited to particular apps.
Turn off Wi-Fi and load a webpage to test the connection.
Keep the receipt, SIM packaging and instructions for checking your balance or adding another package.
Using an eSIM-only phone? Claro supports prepaid eSIM in Nicaragua, but we have not verified new-line eSIM issuance at the airport counter. Arrange your travel eSIM in advance, or use a staffed operator store that can confirm the required service for your device.
Visiting a city store becomes useful when you are staying in Managua, want to compare local packages or need assistance the airport seller cannot provide. Include the extra journey in your decision: a cheaper package may offer little saving if buying it requires a separate taxi trip.
Claro’s Las Américas store is in Multicentro Las Américas, module C11. Its listed hours are Monday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–7 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m.–7 p.m. Use the official store directory to check the branch before making a dedicated trip.
As a national recharge benchmark, Tigo’s MEGA4 costs C$65 for a base allowance of 3 GB of general data over four days, before promotional extras. That is a package price for a local line, not the complete cost of obtaining a new SIM and not an MGA airport quote.
Store hours and national package details checked 7 October 2026.
Short-validity bundles can be economical for a brief stay, while a longer trip may require repeat purchases. Compare the cost over your whole visit, including the initial SIM, rather than treating one four-day package as the budget for a two-week holiday.
Our guide to buying a local SIM in Nicaragua covers the broader Claro and Tigo options, purchase considerations and registration questions.
Roafly’s Nicaragua eSIM uses Claro, with 4G where available. It provides mobile data for maps, bookings, browsing and internet-based messaging, without depending on an airport counter being open.
The plans are data-only, with no local phone number or ordinary calls/SMS. You can keep using WhatsApp with your existing registered number. Hotspot uses your purchased allowance without a separate quota, and top-ups are supported.
This suits a direct transfer from MGA when your priority is mobile data. Local prepaid service deserves consideration if you need a Nicaraguan number, ordinary calls or a larger allowance at a competitive complete price.

Your phone must be carrier-unlocked and support eSIM. Install using a reliable connection before departure, then follow the setup instructions to select the Roafly line for mobile data and enable data roaming on that line in Nicaragua. Keep your home line’s roaming settings separate to avoid unintended usage.
If allowance, validity or provider differences will decide your purchase, compare eSIM plans for Nicaragua before selecting a package.
Do not make free terminal Wi-Fi essential to your pickup arrangements. Wireless internet is confirmed for the airport’s VIP lounge, on the second level beside the boarding areas; free public access throughout arrivals has not been verified.
Before flying, save your accommodation address, pickup instructions, driver’s contact details and an offline map. Agree on a meeting point that still works if you cannot send a message immediately after landing.
If you are leaving MGA directly or arriving late, arrange mobile data before departure and keep those details offline as backup. If you need a local number and can allow time for registration, compare the complete airport quote with a staffed city-store option.
