Your arrival terminal matters. Directions mentioning a particular baggage belt should not be treated as instructions for every terminal, and some documented counters sit within the baggage-collection area before the final customs exit. Ask airport staff where you can buy a SIM before leaving that area; returning may not be possible.

Use a clearly identified operator counter and keep the purchase receipt. If your preferred counter is unavailable, compare another operator’s offer or continue to a city branch once you have an alternative way to contact your accommodation.

What Will You Pay at the Airport?

The useful price is the amount required to leave with a working line and the allowance you selected. An advertised bundle can be only one part of that purchase.

Ask for a single total in Egyptian pounds covering:

There is no sound basis for assuming every airport SIM is more expensive than the equivalent city-store purchase. Compare the same allowance, validity, included calls and complete first payment. Visiting a city shop also takes time and may involve an extra journey.

Documents, Payment and Getting the SIM Working

Bring your original valid passport and the documents showing your permitted stay in Egypt. The SIM-registration rules for foreign customers require a passport and a valid residency document; the operator checks the documents, retains copies and has the customer sign the contract in person.

Keep your visa or other entry documentation accessible and ask which document the operator accepts for your visitor status. Do not assume a passport photograph stored on your phone will complete the purchase. Request your copy of the contract and make sure the line is registered in your own name.

SIM registration and the customs requirements for entering Egypt are separate matters, particularly if you are carrying additional phones or other equipment. Purchasing a local line does not settle an import or declaration requirement.

Take a payment card and some Egyptian pounds as a fallback. Card acceptance has not been reliably confirmed for every airport counter, so relying on a single payment method can complicate an otherwise straightforward purchase.

1. Have the employee show the package name, usable data allowance and expiry date.

2. Insert the SIM into your unlocked phone, or finish the local eSIM setup if that is what you purchased.

3. Turn Wi-Fi off and open a webpage to test mobile data.

If an allowance is described in units, ask how those units translate into data for the apps and websites you use. The headline number alone may not be enough to compare packages.
