Roafly combines prepaid data, top-ups and hotspot sharing for a Sri Lanka trip, with 30-day options that leave room for a longer itinerary. The right purchase also depends on the underlying mobile network, whether you need ordinary phone calls, and how much you will share with another device.
The main comparison uses 10 GB for 30 days, giving five fixed-data providers the same allowance and validity. Holafly’s 15-day unlimited option appears separately within the table because it answers a different usage need.
| Provider | Compared plan | Standard price | Local network(s) | Plan terms that matter |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Roafly | 10 GB / 30 days | $19.90 | Hutch | Top-ups; hotspot uses the purchased allowance without a separate quota |
| Airalo | 10 GB / 30 days | $11.50 | Mobitel | Data-only package; top-ups available |
| Roamless | 10 GB / 30 days | $12.45 | Dialog, Mobitel | Fixed data plan; separate pay-as-you-go balance available |
| Saily | 10 GB / 30 days | $19.99 | Operator names not disclosed on the country page | No separate hotspot restriction stated |
| aloSIM | 10 GB / 30 days | $17.50 | Hutch | Includes a Hushed phone-number offer, used through a separate app |
| Holafly | Unlimited / 15 days | $50.50 | Mobitel, Dialog, Hutch | Hotspot limited to 1 GB per day; fair-use speed reductions may apply |

Airalo has the lowest standard price among the five matched fixed-data plans shown. Roamless combines a relatively low price with two named networks. Roafly’s purchase case rests on clear prepaid terms, replenishment and flexible sharing of its allowance; it is not the price leader in this selection.
Roafly’s Sri Lanka eSIM supports Hutch 4G, with top-ups available when you need more data. Validity starts when the eSIM first connects to a supported network in Sri Lanka, and the plan does not require ID verification.
The smaller choices include 1 GB for seven days at $4.50, 3 GB for 30 days at $7.90, and 5 GB for 30 days at $12.90. The 20 GB option costs $29.90 for 30 days. These give you room to choose around your own usage instead of paying for a daily unlimited allowance throughout the holiday.
Hotspot traffic comes from the same purchased allowance, with no separate daily sharing quota. That suits occasional laptop sessions or sharing with a travel companion, provided you keep track of the combined consumption.
Roafly is data-only. Use internet calling apps for conversations, or keep a separate line if you need ordinary mobile calls and SMS.

Airalo’s compared data-only package uses Mobitel. Its Sri Lanka range also includes separate packages with calls and texts, and those can use a different network.
This distinction matters when you move from a comparison to checkout: select the same allowance, validity and service type you intended to buy. An older reference to an Airalo “Ella” package or Hutch access may describe a different offer from the current data-only option.
The matched package supports top-ups and begins its validity with first use.
Roamless earns a place here through its fixed-plan price and Dialog/Mobitel access. Its 10 GB bundle lasts 30 days from the first data use and supports tethering.
Its separate pay-as-you-go model works differently: purchased credits do not expire and are charged according to the destination and data consumed. That can suit occasional use across several trips, while the fixed bundle gives a known allowance for this stay.
Keep the distinction clear when buying. The Sri Lanka data bundle expires after its validity period and covers Sri Lanka; the reusable global eSIM profile does not turn that country bundle into worldwide data.
Saily’s matched package is almost identical in price to Roafly’s. Its Sri Lanka data plans allow hotspot use without a separate sharing restriction.
The country page does not identify the local operator names. That leaves less information for someone choosing around a particular network, although it does not by itself establish weaker service.
Saily also offers phone-number services separately. The data price in the table should be read as the cost of the data package, rather than an allowance of ordinary calls and texts.
aloSIM runs on Hutch and includes a Hushed phone-number offer with its Sri Lanka package. Redeeming that benefit involves the separate Hushed app.
The promotion provides a Canadian or US number with starter calling credit. Calls and texts run over an internet connection, so this is different from receiving a Sri Lankan mobile number attached to a local SIM.
That distinction is useful if you want to contact ordinary phone numbers while traveling. Treat any requirement for a Sri Lankan number or a particular service’s verification code as a separate purchase question.
Holafly’s 15-day unlimited package suits a different budget and usage pattern from the fixed-data bundles. The main limitation for sharing is its 1 GB daily hotspot allowance.
Heavy use on the phone and heavy use on a connected laptop therefore lead to different buying decisions. Someone sharing large files or joining lengthy laptop video calls should pay particular attention to that daily limit.
Holafly also allows temporary speed reductions under fair-use policies. Its Sri Lanka page does not give a precise country-specific high-speed threshold, so unlimited data should not be read as a promise of unrestricted speed throughout the day.

Buying an eSIM gives access to the networks included in that package. It does not give a phone access to every operator in Sri Lanka.
That matters when your overnight stops stretch beyond Colombo to places around Kandy, Ella or quieter coastal areas. Check the location of the accommodation itself, particularly if you expect to work from it. The Hutch coverage map is a useful starting point for a Roafly route.
Multiple named networks give you more potential connection options, but local signal still depends on terrain, buildings, congestion and the package’s network access. Roamless’s two-network setup and Holafly’s three-network listing are relevant differences; neither establishes the speed you will receive at a particular guesthouse.
Download offline maps and save your accommodation details before long transfers. Mountain journeys and visits to national parks are easier to manage when essential information remains available during a signal gap.
Trip length alone is a poor guide to data use. Ten days of maps and messages can consume much less than a few days of video uploads or laptop sharing.
Think about your likely pattern:
Light use: A smaller bundle can suit maps, messaging and occasional browsing, especially when larger downloads happen over accommodation Wi-Fi.
Regular daily use: The 10 GB benchmark gives more room for browsing, bookings and social media, while keeping the total spend predictable.
Frequent sharing or uploads: Consider a larger allowance, and include every connected device in your estimate. Laptop updates and cloud backups can consume data in the background.
Review your phone’s recent mobile-data usage before choosing. If you expect to spend longer away from Wi-Fi in Sri Lanka, leave some headroom rather than buying exactly the amount you used at home.
Local operator plans deserve a look if a Sri Lankan phone number, domestic calling or in-person setup is central to the trip.
Dialog sells tourist SIMs and tourist eSIMs, including through its airport stores. Its online application for foreigners includes a passport number, email verification, a passport-page capture, a selfie and a signature.
Compare the actual tourist package you intend to buy: data allowance, validity and voice inclusions can change the decision. Keep the registration steps in your arrival planning if you prefer staff assistance.
The practical choice is between the service features you need. A data-only travel eSIM can handle maps, bookings and internet calls; a local voice plan may be more useful when you specifically need to give businesses a Sri Lankan number.
Start with an unlocked, eSIM-compatible phone. On an iPhone, “No SIM Restrictions” under Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock confirms that the device is unlocked. Apple’s guidance on using an eSIM while traveling explains the requirements and dual-SIM options.
Then prepare the connection:
Install over a reliable internet connection. Follow the provider’s app or QR-code instructions while you have time to complete setup.
Label the lines clearly. Keep your home line and travel eSIM easy to distinguish.
Select the travel eSIM for mobile data on arrival. Enable data roaming on that line when the provider’s instructions require it.
Control your home-line costs. Disable its data roaming and avoid automatic data switching to it. Calls and texts on the home line can still incur roaming charges.
Installation and the start of paid validity are separate steps for many packages. Follow the activation terms for the specific plan you purchased.
Yes. Using a travel eSIM for data does not require changing the number registered to your existing WhatsApp account. Keep the app set up before departure, and retain access to the registered number if verification becomes necessary.
The country-specific packages compared here cover Sri Lanka. An onward journey requires a package or pay-as-you-go service that explicitly covers the next destination. Reusing an eSIM profile and reusing the same data allowance are different things.
