Roafly combines competitively priced 30-day data plans with A1 network access, hotspot sharing and top-ups, making it a practical choice for a Skopje–Ohrid trip. Its 5 GB and 10 GB packages cost slightly less than the equivalent Airalo and Roamless plans compared below.
The main decision is how much data you need and where you will use it. Staying within North Macedonia keeps the choice simple; continuing into Albania, Kosovo or elsewhere in the Balkans makes the covered-country list just as important as the price.
These are country plans with the same 30-day validity, priced in US dollars. Missing tiers indicate that the provider does not offer that exact data allowance and duration in its current North Macedonia country selection.
| Provider | 3 GB / 30 days | 5 GB / 30 days | 10 GB / 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roafly | $9.90 | $12.90 | $19.90 |
| Airalo | — | $13.00 | $21.00 |
| Roamless | $8.95 | $12.95 | $20.95 |
| Saily | $18.99 | — | — |

Roafly has the lowest standard price for the matched 5 GB and 10 GB country packages in this table, although the differences are modest. Roamless costs less at 3 GB. Pick the allowance you will actually use before comparing the final price.
Shorter, regional and unlimited packages
Ubigi and Holafly use different package structures. The offers below keep their actual validity and coverage visible; the two unlimited examples both cover seven days.
| Provider | Package | Validity | USD price | Important terms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ubigi | 3 GB, North Macedonia | 15 days | $18.00 | Fixed allowance; hotspot allowed |
| Ubigi | 10 GB, Europe Extended | 30 days | $35.00 | Regional package including North Macedonia |
| Holafly | Unlimited data | 7 days | $27.90 | Hotspot limited to 1 GB/day; fair-use policies apply |
| Roamless | Unlimited data | 7 days | $27.93 | 3 GB/day at full speed, then 1 Mbps; no separate hotspot cap |

The distinction matters on a real trip. Roafly’s 10 GB is one allowance to distribute across 30 days, including hotspot use. Roamless’s unlimited offer provides a fresh high-speed allowance every 24 hours, while Holafly separates phone data from the amount you can share.

Roafly suits a trip that combines several nights in Skopje with time around Lake Ohrid. Its 3 GB, 5 GB and 10 GB packages all last 30 days, so extending your stay does not require a longer-validity package as long as your allowance remains sufficient.
Hotspot usage comes from the same purchased allowance, without a separate daily sharing quota. You can use some data on your phone and some on a laptop or a companion’s device. Top-ups are available if your plans change or you use more data than expected.
The service is data-only, with no local phone number. Roafly uses A1 in North Macedonia, and the plan starts when it first connects to a supported network in the country.
Compare the current North Macedonia eSIM plans before departure, then select the allowance that fits your stay and sharing needs.

Airalo offers several validity periods, including seven, 15 and 30 days, and uses A1 for its North Macedonia packages. The shorter options deserve attention if your departure date is fixed: its 5 GB seven-day package costs $12, compared with $13 for 30 days.
That makes duration part of the buying decision. Roafly’s 30-day equivalent costs $12.90, so the additional time costs little, but a short Airalo package can still mean a lower upfront bill for a brief visit.
Saily’s North Macedonia selection is limited to 1 GB for seven days at $7.99 and 3 GB for 30 days at $18.99. Neither a 5 GB nor a 10 GB country package was available at the time of comparison.
Its reusable eSIM profile and app-based security features may appeal to existing Saily users. Hotspot is supported, but the country page does not name the local network partner. With larger data needs, the limited country allowances make the other fixed-data options easier to fit to the trip.
Roamless gives you a choice between country data packages, unlimited plans and pay-as-you-go credits. The fixed packages in the first table last 30 days; its credits do not expire and can be used in supported destinations at the applicable local rate.
That distinction is useful on a Balkan route. Keeping the same eSIM profile does not turn a North Macedonia fixed package into a regional allowance. Country packages remain country-specific, while the credit balance follows a different charging model.
The seven-day unlimited option has a clearly stated speed policy: after the daily high-speed allowance in the table is used, service continues at 1 Mbps until the next 24-hour reset. Hotspot has no separate quota, but it consumes that same allowance.
Holafly charges by trip duration and lists A1 and Makedonski Telekom as network partners. Its seven-day unlimited package is designed around phone data use, with a separate 1 GB daily allowance for sharing.
That hotspot limit matters if you expect to work from a laptop or share one connection between two people. Unlimited phone data also remains subject to operator fair-use policies, which can temporarily reduce speed. Treat the duration, hotspot allowance and speed-management terms as part of the package.
Ubigi offers a small 1 GB, seven-day country package for $7, alongside the 3 GB, 15-day option in the table. Its reusable profile, hotspot support and ability to buy more data in the app without remaining data or Wi-Fi are useful practical features.
The Europe Extended package serves a different itinerary. Its 10 GB lasts 30 days and includes North Macedonia alongside other covered destinations. The higher price buys regional coverage, so it belongs in a multi-country decision rather than a straight country-only price ranking.
If North Macedonia is your only stop, compare Ubigi’s local allowance and expiry with the 30-day options above. If you are crossing borders, compare the regional package’s full country list with your actual route.
Roafly, Airalo and Roamless all identify A1 access in North Macedonia. Some plan details still use the older Vip name: Vip became A1 in 2019. Seeing both labels does not establish access to two independent operators.
The shared network name offers little reason to pay more. Allowance, validity, hotspot rules and how you add data are more useful points of comparison.
Signal still depends on the exact location, terrain, building and network conditions. A city stay in Skopje presents different demands from a drive into Mavrovo or time in the hills above Ohrid. Use an A1 coverage map to examine your route; crowdsourced measurements are useful indications, not a promise of service at every stop.
Download offline maps and save your accommodation details before heading into mountain areas. That preparation is useful whichever eSIM brand you choose.
Ohrid sits close enough to Albania for a border crossing to change an otherwise simple country-plan decision. The Roafly North Macedonia package covers North Macedonia; continuing into Albania requires suitable coverage for the next country.
If you prefer separate country allowances, compare eSIM options for Albania before crossing. If the itinerary includes several countries, a regional package may reduce the number of purchases, provided every stop is included.
Read the country list rather than relying on labels such as “Europe” or “Balkans.” Kosovo, Albania and North Macedonia can be treated differently by different regional products.
Your home SIM needs a separate check. North Macedonia is not automatically covered by EU “Roam Like at Home” rules; extending the scheme to Western Balkan partners has been a separate negotiation process. Your carrier may include the country commercially, but that depends on your own tariff.
Let your daily habits set the allowance. Navigation, messages and booking confirmations make a very different demand from video streaming or a laptop downloading updates.
3 GB: a light-use trip with regular accommodation Wi-Fi and limited photo or video uploading.
5 GB: a useful starting point for roughly a week of maps, messaging, browsing and occasional sharing, with heavier downloads on Wi-Fi.
10 GB: more room for a longer stay, frequent uploads or occasional laptop tethering. Regular video calls can still use it quickly.
These are planning estimates, not guaranteed trip lengths. You can estimate your travel data usage before buying, especially if more than one person will share the connection.
Keep cloud backups, app updates and large downloads on Wi-Fi. Stretching the allowance this way is often more useful than paying for a larger package that expires mostly unused.
Complete the installation while you have a reliable internet connection, then prepare the phone to use the correct line on arrival.
Confirm device support and unlocking. Check your exact model and sales region against the eSIM compatibility list.
Install over Wi-Fi. Follow the iPhone and Android installation guide. Installing Roafly ahead of the trip does not start the North Macedonia allowance; the first supported local network connection does.
Select the travel eSIM for mobile data. Enable data roaming on that eSIM as instructed, turn off data roaming on your home line and disable automatic mobile-data switching.
Keep your usual number only as needed. WhatsApp can continue using your existing number. Roafly’s data plan does not include cellular calls or SMS, and using the home line for those services can incur your carrier’s roaming charges.
Save the installation instructions and your first accommodation address offline. Once you arrive in Skopje or Ohrid, you can get connected without making a SIM-shop visit the first task of the trip.
