Schiphol’s public shopping area gives arriving passengers somewhere to look for a physical SIM before leaving the airport. The useful distinction is between a confirmed SIM seller, a retailer with conflicting pickup information, and a data plan you can prepare before flying.

Yes, you can buy SIM cards at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport: Service Point at Schiphol Plaza is a confirmed seller, with published daily opening hours of 07:00–22:00. Buying there suits passengers who need a physical SIM during those hours; an eSIM prepared before departure is more practical when you want to avoid a shop stop or arrive late.
Start with Schiphol Plaza, the public area before security. The choice depends on whether you need a physical card immediately, can wait until Amsterdam, or have a phone that supports eSIM.
| Option | Where or when | Price basis | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Service Point | Schiphol Plaza, before security; daily 07:00–22:00 | Current airport price not reliably published | Buying a physical SIM before leaving the airport |
| City prepaid SIM | An operator shop after reaching Amsterdam | SIM purchase plus the selected bundle; obtain the shop total | Comparing local plans or getting a local number |
| Roafly eSIM | Buy online and install before travelling | Selected prepaid data package | Mobile data without collecting or swapping a SIM |
Shop information and published operator/product information checked on 7 October 2026. National prepaid tariffs and online offers are not confirmed Schiphol counter prices.
Service Point’s airport listing confirms SIM sales and access for all visitors and passengers. It is a general service shop, so ask which prepaid cards and bundles are currently in stock before choosing.
Passengers staying airside for a connection should not plan around this landside shop. Anyone arriving shortly before closing also needs to allow time to reach Plaza after completing the arrival process.
Airport Telecom pickup needs particular attention. Its general company page still describes a Schiphol shop between Arrivals 1 and 2, but the more specific Schiphol branch notice says collection is currently available only at Rotterdam Airport and Zaventem.
That notice concerns pickup; it does not clearly settle whether walk-in sales continue. Current Schiphol walk-in availability and hours are therefore unconfirmed. Contact the retailer before ordering for airport collection rather than relying on the older location description.
Treat the counter’s complete purchase total as the price that matters. The SIM itself, included credit, data bundle and any setup charge can be separate components.
Before paying, get clear answers to these questions:
What is the total today? Include the SIM, required top-up, bundle and any activation or service charge.
What does the package include? Check data allowance, validity, a local number, calls and SMS.
Where will it work? Ask about the specific countries on your itinerary and any separate roaming allowance.
When does validity start? Establish whether the bundle begins immediately or requires activation.
Retailer-specific ID requirements and accepted payment methods for Service Point SIM purchases are not reliably published. Keep your passport available and ask whether the shop accepts your intended card or cash before the SIM is opened or activated.
Your phone must be unlocked and able to accept the chosen SIM format. If you need help installing the card, agree on that assistance and any fee first. Before leaving, turn off Wi-Fi and load a webpage using mobile data; also keep the receipt and SIM packaging.
Online prices from an airport retailer still need careful interpretation. They may describe delivery or a different collection arrangement, so they should not be treated as a guaranteed walk-up airport total.
Waiting until the city makes sense if you already have enough connectivity to reach your accommodation and want to compare local prepaid options. Vodafone confirms that its prepaid SIM cards are available through its Dutch shops.
One useful benchmark is Vodafone’s advertised seven-day Unlimited internet bundle at €14, with unlimited data in the Netherlands and a 25 GB EU roaming allowance. This is a bundle price for a Vodafone prepaid SIM, not a complete new-SIM purchase total or a confirmed Schiphol offer.
Vodafone prepaid bundle details checked on 7 October 2026. Obtain the combined SIM and bundle price in store; calls and SMS should be checked separately.
That kind of local bundle can be worth considering for a data-heavy week. An airport purchase may still be more convenient if you need a working physical SIM immediately and the quoted package suits your stay. Without a verified airport total, there is no sound basis for promising a particular saving.
Our guide to buying a prepaid SIM in the Netherlands covers the wider operator and purchasing choices without limiting you to airport stock.
Roafly’s Netherlands eSIM is suited to visitors who mainly need maps, messaging, bookings and other mobile data. It supports KPN and Vodafone, includes hotspot use within the purchased allowance, and offers top-ups.
The plans are data-only, with no local phone number, standard calls or SMS. Your device must support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked. Network availability depends on your location, device and local conditions.
Install the eSIM before departure while you have a reliable internet connection, then follow the setup instructions for selecting it as your mobile-data line on arrival. This removes the need to find a shop, check physical SIM stock or replace your existing card.

Schiphol provides free airport Wi-Fi. Select Schiphol_Free_Wi-Fi in your device settings for a four-hour session; you can log in again to continue using it free of charge.
Use that connection to retrieve your accommodation details, download an offline map or contact someone meeting you. Airport Wi-Fi is useful while you arrange your next step, but you still need a plan for connectivity after leaving its coverage.
If you are weighing airport Wi-Fi, a local SIM, an eSIM and your existing mobile plan, our guide to internet options in the Netherlands explains the broader choice.
You land late or leave the airport before shops open: prepare an eSIM if your phone supports it, or arrange suitable roaming with your existing provider. Use airport Wi-Fi as a temporary connection.
Your phone requires a physical SIM: visit the confirmed airport seller during its opening hours, or reach the city with your route and accommodation details saved offline.
You already have Netherlands data included: check the remaining allowance and applicable terms before buying another plan.
You are continuing to Belgium, Germany or elsewhere: choose a package that explicitly covers each destination. Roafly’s Netherlands country plan is for the Netherlands; a local SIM’s roaming allowance also needs to match the onward trip.
