iMessage or FaceTime is not activating

If you see a spinning wheel or a "Waiting for activation" message under iMessage or FaceTime after installing your Roafly eSIM, don't worry. This happens because your phone is trying to activate these services using the Roafly eSIM's internal technical number, which is for data only and does not support SMS or calls.

To fix this and keep using iMessage with your own identity, follow these steps:

Step 1: Keep your iMessage tied to your Primary Number/Email

Your Roafly eSIM provides high-speed data, but your iMessage should remain connected to your home phone number or your Apple ID email.

  1. Go to Settings > Messages.

  2. Tap Send & Receive.

  3. Ensure your home phone number (Primary SIM) and your Apple ID email are checked.

  4. Uncheck any unknown or temporary numbers associated with the Roafly eSIM.

Step 2: Set your Primary SIM for iMessage (If still active)

If you are keeping your home SIM on for calls/SMS (with roaming OFF), make sure it remains the default for iMessage:

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular.

  2. Tap your Primary (Home) SIM.

  3. Ensure it is toggled ON for iMessage and FaceTime.

Step 3: Sign Out and Sign Back In (The Reset)

If it’s still stuck:

  1. Go to Settings > Messages > Toggle iMessage OFF.

  2. Go to Settings > FaceTime > Toggle FaceTime OFF.

  3. Restart your iPhone.

  4. Toggle both iMessage and FaceTime back ON. Your iPhone will now correctly route these services through your active Roafly data connection using your Apple ID.

💡 Pro Tip: To avoid expensive roaming charges from your home provider, never use your Roafly eSIM's technical number for SMS activation. Always stick to your Apple ID (email) for iMessage while traveling!
